It's been a few months since the last release of the libre real-time strategy game 0 A.D. but yesterday a new alpha was released for us to enjoy. Let's see what is new!
This release isn't necessarily the most interesting one but it comes with various improvements that will definitely make it a better experience for many of us.

The top features of this release:
- Nomad game mode
- In-game tech tree
- Save support in the Petra AI
- New buildings for the Seleucid Empire
The Nomad game mode plays like the normal game mode except you start without a base with only a couple of citizens and soldiers. You need to find a place for your base and build it from scratch. The tech tree is also a quite neat thing. It allows you to see what buildings and technologies are available to which civilizations at each phase of the game. Definitely useful when you are learning the game.
Personally the best thing in the update is the save support for the AI. Until now when you've played with an AI you had to either play until the end or just give up because loading up a save would confuse the AI completely. Now you can save any time you want to and pick up from where you left off.
Along with these features came some Seleucid specific building models and various under the hood performance improvements as well as improvements to the Atlas scenario editor. I played a couple of quick test matches and the performance seemed to be better than before so they have definitely made some progress.

Go download the game and give the devs some love. They really deserve it.

The new features sound wonderful. I've been following this game since it was announced that a formerly proposed commercial product was going FOSS. It has gotten better and better since the first alpha, and, while it's a long way from a proper, AAA RTS, there are so few proper RTS games for we Linux games. Along with MegaGlest and Warzone 2100, this is a most welcome FOSS RTS game. Huzzah!

I should give this a spin again at some point. I haven't touched 0 A.D. in a while!
