7 Days to Die Completely Broken For Mac & Linux

By - | Views: 28,642
Just a little warning if you were thinking of picking up '7 Days to Die', they just release Alpha 12 which has completely broken Mac & Linux builds.

I haven't been their biggest fan (and it's well detailed in articles here on GOL), but they did eventually release the Linux build and people have been enjoying it.

The problem now, is it appears all testing on Linux (and Mac) has stopped. Proof is in the pudding with Alpha 12 being completely broken on both platforms. Here's what it looks like right now:

Something that big with everything being grey, textures not appearing, black boxes everywhere would have been caught if they had a single Linux test machine, as it took me all of 5 minutes to see the bug in action. They aren't the only developer who treats Linux as a second class citizen, I'm looking at you Rust.

Early Access does come with a whole host of troubles if not done by a competent developer, but that "Early Access" excuse wears a little thin with such glaringly obvious bugs that just weren't tested. Remember, no matter what, you have paid for it, so it should work to a certain degree. There's also six pages of people confirming the bug here, so it's not a small issue.

If you were thinking of picking 7 Days up, I would seriously lay off it right now, and I would seriously wait until it exits Early Access. You can find 7 Days To Die on Steam. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: edoIt can be forgiven since its early-access, its in alpha afterall, what I would expect is to see efforts from them in looking for a way to fix it for the next update.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. EA isn't an excuse for everything. It seems they didn't even a test run for Linux/Mac or why would they release such a mess? Professional would have been to delay it, till they can fix it. This way it only shows how much they care about their Mac/Linux & Users.

I'm a bit pissed off as I was FORCED to update on Steam and my Server. In middle of the game. Shouldn't it be my decision when I want to update? The first days/weeks of a new release is always a mess. At least with the "Funny Pimps".
