ARK: Survival Evolved Linux Release Delayed For The End Of June

By - | Views: 14,456
ARK: Survival Evolved sadly won't hit the release date today for the Linux & Mac versions, but they sent word that it will release on Tuesday the 30th of June.

I'm okay with them delaying it by a few days, as it shows they are testing it, and making it a better release for us. After a twitter exchange with me last night they wrote a quick update for Linux & Mac fans, but today they are making a new release date official.

For those not familiar with why you should be excited:

Excited now?

They wrote this on their official Steam page:
QuoteHey guys!

We know you've all been waiting so patiently for the release of the Mac and Linux client. We had to delay the initial release from the 25th of June, so we could spend some extra time working on the client, testing, and optimizing the release on these two platforms. However now we are excited to announce that that the Official Release for ARK Survival Evolved on Mac and Linux will be made available on Tuesday the 30th of June!

Mark your Calendars Mac and Linux gamers!!

Thank you so much for being super patient and we can't wait to see you on the ARK!

All the best,

Your Community Manager Jat and The ARK Survival Evolved Team!

Are you excited for the release? It's games like this that we need, due to their popularity. It is in the top 5 most played games on Steam already, and constantly has a high number of players on it. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: ElectricPrism@Segata Sanshiro - I can't find a area to display FPS in the menu

There's a general Steam setting to get FPS display for all games nowadays!

Quoting: Segata Sanshiro@ElectricPrism - what kind of framerates are you getting at what settings?

I get 26 - 36 FPS outdoors on Epic. I get 45 FPS indoors on Epic. A average of 30 FPS outside.

I would assume that it should do at least high on a GTX 960, it seems that motion blur helps smooth the millions of vertexes rendered on the grass, trees, etc...

Any other questions?

Thanks! It seems to have improved a lot then, looks like I could probable get 30fps on high. At this stage in development, I would consider that more than acceptable really, but will hopefully continue to get better :).

QuoteI suspect that it will actually run better on Linux than on Windows

I have serious doubts about that. There's been a lot of cases of games running faster on OpenGL, but I imagine most of the optimisation work in this case will be put into the Windows build. I do really hope you're right though :)

I bought this already when it was on sale awhile back because it looked awesome. I have an SSD and even there it takes forever to load.

Game runs mostly smooth on highest settings at 2560x1080 on my 980GTX with amd 8120 cpu. I think this is the game that gives toy an option of low memory (4GB?). The fact that 4GB of ram is considered low these days scares me...

Really wanted to play this on Linux (I am logged into it 90% of the time). Didn't know it was even being released for it until it was announced here and am really excited to play it more. Until the 30th, I will work on finishing Dying Light. :)

In case anyone sees this in time

They are accepting Linux/Mac testers for today, just go to this thread and post your system specs to be considered: http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/523890528711941143/

They decided to wait another day due to some bandwidth issue, and made a guarantee that it will be released for us tomorrow.
But in the meantime they will accept some of us as testers for today starting around 9PM EST

Has the icon on steam now. Also the discount is reapplied, the one we missed out on because the release was delayed. Off to the steam store :-)
