Remember when Randy Pitchford of Gearbox told us not to get our hopes up? Then Borderlands: The Pre-sequel was confirmed for Linux? Well he's a funny guy as Borderlands 2 is now showing signs of coming over to Linux anyway.

Thanks to the SteamDB as usual:

There's a lot more too, but you get the idea

Borderlands 2 was ported to Mac thanks to Aspyr Media, so it's easy to assume they will be doing the porting for Borderlands 2 on Linux as well. Considering how good their first Linux port was I have high hopes for this one to not only be real, but to be a good port.

I've actually played a lot of the original Borderlands and a little bit of Borderlands 2, so I will be buying all the DLC once it is release to show my support. I might even grab a gift copy for one lucky GamingOnLinux reader, so stay tuned for that.

Borderlands 2 is a massive game with some really awesome weapons to be found. The weapons that can be found vary widly too, and no play-through will be the same. The chance to have this type of game on Linux is amazing.

I would imagine Borderlands 2 would be ported before The Pre-sequel since it's an older and more familiar code-base.

We have reached out to Aspyr Media to see if they can comment on it or point us in the direction of who is doing it.

You can check out Borderlands 2 on Steam here, but we highly recommend NOT buying it until it is released.

Are you as excited as we are? Be sure to sound off in the comments and spread the word across the internet.

For me Randy Pitchford of Gearbox this puts you firmly back in my good backs after Colonial Marines, so don't break my heart again please. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

There is no good reason to use Windows anymore. Sure, Linux doesn't have all the titles yet, but still too many to get through anyway (I have lots in my library which are still unplayed). It's gotten to the point where it's less inconvenient to have those few "must have" titles on Wine than it is to dual boot. So really don't get why people use it at all (unless they use some very specific pieces of software for work or something).

Also, not hugely interested in Borderlands, but if Aspyr is doing the port then I think I will try it. Just wish someone would announce Bioshock Infinite now...

Hopefully B1 wont be too far behind.. just for completion sake. Also nvidia needs to hurry up with linux PhysX. Say whatever you want about it... borderlands uses it, and it's amazing with it. If you say you can't tell the difference between playing it with advanced gpu PhysX and no PhysX or turned down PhysX.. please step up to the ______ so I can smack the crap outta you, you poor, blind mofo ;)

J/K.. or am I?

EDIT: Liam since you have been in contact with them, will you let them know our community is ready and willing to beta test if/when they need. If they are worried about too many people jumping in just for the beta, limit it to people who's GOL accounts were created before today maybe?

EDIT Again: Like Dead Island, Borderlands 2 is already showing up on my linux game list in steam.

Pitchford is kind of an idiot. First he says he'll look into it, then he says it's not going to happen, and now it is happening. Is that marketing hype? because it looks a lot like indifference to your audience, to me.

Anyway I'm glad that Borderlands 2 and Presequel are coming to Linux and I'll buy them both.

I always wanted to check what's the hype for ... I don't see anything special about the game (yet), but it's got so great ratings that I'll have to buy and check it out.
