Chroma Squad is a game I've been following for a while, and the release is nearly upon us. Will you be grabbing a copy?

It is due for release on the 30th of April, and it looks like it's going to be quite a fun game to play. I grew up with the Power Rangers TV show, so that is what had me somewhat interested in this title.

What has me even more interested is the fact that this game came from Kickstarter, and it's not going to delay the Linux release as so many keep doing. Sadly, that alone seem to be worth some praise nowadays. Not to detract from the game itself, as it does look and sound pretty fun.

About the game (Official)
Chroma Squad is a tactical RPG about five stunt actors who decide to quit their jobs and start their own Power Rangers-inspired TV show! Cast actors, purchase equipment and upgrades for your studio, craft weapons and giant Mechas out of cardboard and duct tape. Once the cameras are rolling, you will control your cast of five colored-jumpsuit-clad warriors in dramatic, turn-based battles!

Check out Chroma Squad on Steam. I will be grabbing it for sure! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Good for them finally getting close to release. They've had a hard time of it.

This game is inspired by all sorts of shows in the tokusatsu genre like Kamen Rider, not just Super Sentai (which is what Power Rangers is based off). Despite this, and not having used any copyrighted material, they were bullied by Saban (the owners of the Power Rangers trademark in the west) and threatened with legal action. The devs are a tiny indie Brazilian team and caved under pressure even though the case had no real legal standing. This is probably because they had no financial resources to fight any potential court case and were afraid of an injunction against them in North America. It would have been an unlikely outcome as parodies/homages in entertainment media have been consistently protected by US courts numerous times.

I wish them luck and success but I've yet to make up my mind if I'll pick it up. The thought of directly or indirectly supporting copyright trolls isn't appealing to me. It's a shame because the game looks fun and the devs obviously have a lot of love for the genre.

I'm not sure about the game yet, but I sure could go for some Chroma flavored curry rice.

I did read up on the Saban vs Chroma Squad stuff, and it didn't seem as doom and gloom as I thought. While it's pretty stupid as it's obviously a parady, and doesn't use anything from their works directly, i still find it odd the developer claimed there weren't any threats, but Saban even contacting them at all is obviously a threat.

The choice here is to either buy it, play it and enjoy it and support the developers a bit, or to shun it because some rights holder gets a small stake.

I would rather still support the developer for a fun game.

This is from the same company that did Knights of Pen and Paper (which I loved) so it will probably have the same quirky humor.
