Correction: ASTRONEER The Beautiful Sandbox Game Might Come To Linux

Recently we published an article about ASTRONEER coming to Linux, sadly it seems that I wasn't quite right. The good news is the developer seems like they really want to.

@gamingonlinux We can confirm we'd love to come to Linux, but our first focus is PC and probably Mac. Linus is def. on the radar.

We were going by the press stuff sent around that Destructoid covered in the initial article, and they listed Linux as a platform, but it seems they wrote Linux by themselves and didn't check. My bad, I should have waited for more confirmation myself, and not trusted a usually reputable website directly, so I apologise.

Thankfully, the reply I quoted above from our twitter chat seems that it could happen. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Whenever I read any statement where people are clearly confusing Windows with a PC I feel this strange urge to scream:

Bring this to my linux-powered-toaster!

I mean, if only a PC with Windows is a PC I figure I may as well call my desktop machine toaster...

Idiocracy truly is on it's way when even the more intelligent people are getting dumber by the minute...

I too, get seriously fucking annoyed with that whole PC/Mac/Linux thing.

Sorry, I didn't realise my laptop was no longer a PC once I installed Linux and OSX on it.

They plan to support gaming on Linus? I'm not sure he's going to appreciate that.

Historically PC = IMB PC. Later compatibles and clones arrived and the term was genericized a bit. Macs back then were not included as they did not use the X86 architecture, so there is historical precendent for for excluding Macs.

Crucially the original PC shipped with MS-DOS. Later DOS was replaced by Windows. So arguably an MS OS was a part of the package.

However it is still hard to argue that a PC ceases to be a PC if you install Linux or any other OS.

Bottomline: PC is not a very usefull and precise term at all.

Awwwww :( Man this game looked so awesome!

(and ffs guys, get over that "PC" thing. "Linux" sounds better in every conceiable way anyway.)

I don't really mind that developers say PC instead of Windows, as long as it's clear from context what they mean. I do find it a bit odd that these developers submitted their press release to a Linux games site when a Linux version isn't certain though. Their game looks very interesting though, and I hope they end up making it available for us to play.
