Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions is the next in line of the crazy neon coloured action game. The new version has been confirmed for Linux too!

This was one of Aspyr Media's secret ports, so we have them to thank yet again! We should also thank the developers for being so open about it on twitter.

Confirmation comes from the developers public tweets to us:

@gamingonlinux yes the linux port is very much real

Interesting. Never thought I'd see Activision supporting Linux games, directly or otherwise. Better than EA, Ubisoft or Zenimax at least!

This is great news! I really loved Geometry Wars on the 360, but I always felt the PC release was mediocre in comparison. Not only does it look like they're going to bring the same love to PC with this sequel, but with Linux included! Definitely going to get this when it comes out.

Ho man! I'm not a "day one" guy, but I loved Geometry Wars 1 and 2 so much that I don't think that I will be able to resist very long. I hope that the linux port will be available day one, or at least, soon.

Oooh Aspyr! That's a relief. I was worried this was a Unity game at first. The game looks like great fun. Will it be released for Linux as well from day one?

EDIT: I see the earlier games in the franchise has collected excellent metascores. Sold!

As a fan of the originals, I'm deeply excited! :D

great news. Wonder when the Steam controller is out ?

Gonna buy, but gonna wait till it goes on sale. Into the wish-list with you GW3.

Did someone mention Aspyr! On my wish-list :D

Looks like a game which would work great with a Steam controller. Relaxed and laid-back positioning, legs on the table and a steam controller in a tight grip and a few hours of fun game play.

To be honest I'm not that ecstatic that this was one of the secret Aspyr's ports.
I had hopes that they're working on heavy AAA projects, something to give Linux and edge of sorts.
I imagine (hope) there's still some great work in progress there though.

To be exact, this game could be tons of fun and all, I have nothing to say against it.
But while personally I don't necessarily need only AAA titles in my library, I think Linux as a platform badly needs them.

Looking at the Sierra home page, another Aspyr related game might be King's Quest. Could it be that Sierra is a Linux friendly publisher? "Looking forward to serve bad porridge to evil wizards".
