An interesting opportunity has arisen for Linux gamers to find out if The Witcher 3 is going to come to Linux, and if it's native or not.

CD Projekt RED will be at Gamescom this year, and they are taking on community questions. This is the time to find out what's going on with that supposedly accidental steam store home-page image of The Witcher 3 coming to SteamOS. We are of course talking about this image that ended up on Steam's home page:

The interviews will all be on video it seems too, so it will be interesting to see what their reactions are when asked, although I imagine it will all be rehearsed. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Accidental? How so? Did they later say it was not coming to SteamOS?

They still didn't say it's not coming, they just didn't announce it. The image actually suggests it will come later.

I'd guess Witcher 3 on a "real" Steam Machine launch.

They didn't say that it's coming either, therefore asking them to clarify this is a good idea (so please vote).

I am more the guy for the surprise moment :D. Otherwhise I'll keep asking myself "Will it be soon?". The "maybe, maybe not" keeps me more relaxed.

By the way, since they noted that the new engine is "designed to support cross platform development better" I'd very much expect it to come at some point, and even natively (they need to go for OpenGL anyway in MacOS, and porting to Linux is grapically not too much challange after you did it for MacOS, and Valve is working closely with the devs to sort out troubles, according to the Aspire-Interview we read).

OS X support was never announced by them. Cross platform can refer to their planned release for PlayStation4. So far they never said that they actually support OpenGL in their new RedEngine. So this is a good opportunity to clarify the situation. Feel free to ask your own questions in that thread.

Registered, thanked, and given a REDpoint. More people need to get behind this, much like with the request to make Galaxy open source.
