One of the Minecraft developers shared a graph today of different launches of Minecraft across PC platforms, and the results are interesting.

We asked what these launches covered:

Looks like Linux still has some ways to go for Minecraft fans. It's good to see it as high as it is though, as I honestly expected it to be lower than it is.

I can't imagine that MS's acquisition of Minecraft has exactly endeared it to the linux-faithful. But for me, the real surprise:

Windows 95 - 1076

There shouldn't be that many Win95 boxes left. Period. Let alone running MC. :)

Without the sellout to MS, I could have been counted yesterday. I pondered playing again and renting a Realm for my friends and I, just before I learned the sad news which cut any will to come back to this once great, genuine indie game.

Linux has a much smaller market share than Windows, so of course that's going to be reflected in the number of Minecraft users who are running Linux. I don't see why anyone should be surprised to see numbers like this.

What's shocking is that there is more Windows 95 players than 98. What the?

I think it looks roughly as expected. Mac around six times bigger than Linux? Sounds like a reflection of the Steam stats.

Let's not forget that people can run Minecraft from WINE and choose Windows 95... I don't think that Windows 95 can natively run Minecraft :P

Or people can even run Minecraft from Windows Compatibility Mode and choose Windows 95.

Wait, why would you run Minecraft in Wine? And Minecraft can easily run in Windows 95. If I remember correctly, it needed Java 5 to run and everything above that works.
