Mutant Factions is a pretty nice looking top down online shooter, and the developer let us know about some great changes recently. It has a free demo right now too.

The mechanics and general gameplay look like they could be quite fun, but sadly whenever I tried it there was no one online to play with. Hopefully the developer can add in some bots to alleviate that problem a bit.

Recently the developer was put in some lovely new graphics, and a new game mode based around chemicals and capturing points. Sounds like it could be pretty fun, so maybe we can get a game going if people like the look of it.

About the game
Mutant Factions is an online shooter that merges fast-paced action with strategic RTS and RPG gameplay. This RTS and RPG gameplay come through two main features:

Base Building: Players can now place “chemicals” on the ground that act a bit like buildings in an RTS game. They do useful things like teleport you, heal you or reveal enemies. What makes them really cool though is that they’re invisible to enemies, and therefore require spying, mind-games and deduction to find and destroy.

Skills System: Mutant Factions also has a complex skills system similar to many RPG games. You can go invisible, slow down enemy bullets, poison your enemies and more. This adds plenty of depth and replayability as you level up and develop your skill build.

You can find Mutant Factions here. It has been greenlit for Steam, so I hope that sorts out the player problem as it looks quite fun. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I am glad to see it here once again, since I was the one who originally posted an article about it here :) The game is on its way to Steam, can't wait to replay it :)
