Minecraft: Story Mode is a brand new adventure being created around Minecraft, but sadly Linux has been left out in the cold it seems.

Minecraft: Story mode will be a narrative-driven video game created by Telltale Games. It will be about Minecraft. Telltale have made some pretty highly rated games, so for general gamers this will probably be exciting news.

The Mojang press release used the annoying "PC" term when talking about platforms:
QuoteThe first episode will be released some time in 2015, and will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices.

While I got tired of the "PC != Windows" argument some time ago; it's still silly to be used like this.

And the press release from Telltale was even worse:
Quotestand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.

"Computers", what does that mean then?

We have shot off emails, and multiple tweets in the hope of getting a solid answer, but considering it's Telltale who have no history of Linux support we culd be left high and dry on this one. We hope this isn't the case though

We will update you if anyone actually responds to us. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

With Microsoft behind all this, I would say there's no chance at all, but times change...

They usually relase their games on Windows and MacOS. I guess that's what they mean by "computers".

Since Microsoft is involved, just forget about it, it's all over.
They'll probably make sure it doesn't happen, like they did with Netflix and MechWarrior Online, and, and, and... Where there is M$ bux, there is no tux.

They dropped Netflix limitations because of all the mobile devices that required it and it's on a field where they already lost the battle, anyway...

Else, M$ doesn't like fair competition because they just can't compete anymore...

What does MS have to do with Netflix?

Also don't Mac, PS4, iOS and Android count as competitors? Heck this doesn't look to be coming to Microsofts own mobile platform at all... it seems it will be exclusively available on competeting platforms!

Netflix has all to do with M$... I don't know if it's still the case but they used to be a major shareholder in Netflix. M$ bux.

Back then, I found some interresting discussions threads with some members of the Netflix support staff who told directly that there was no Linux/MAC support because of M$.

http://news.microsoft.com/2012/10/09/microsoft-announces-reed-hastings-will-not-seek-re-election/

Neflix on PS4 and MAC? Until recently it was impossible. Android and IOS are competitors in the market of the mobile device where M$ has a ±3% marketshare... They are not in a Monopolistic position to oppose anybody and if Netflix wants to take it's share of this new market, they had no choice but to drop the limitations. We just benefited from that.

sorry but what made you think telltale would release this on linux, because its an adventure about a game that is available on linux ? telltale has never release their games on linux.

And as for because MS involved comments..... right... and they also behind the fact that these telltale games are not ported either. Telltale simply does not do linux games, their choise end of conspiracy.

some of their older once (mostly before the .net stuff) do work fine under wine. Sam & Max specially worth a try if you want some fun. anyways check This guide

I have to agree. I'm surprised this was covered here. Telltale has never had any interest in Linux. I've been following their games since they released Bone (though not as closely in recent years as I've lost interest in the licenses they make games for).

That said, they have been newly supporting Android recently, so there's always the possibility they change their mind, but I really doubt it.
