By - | Views: 15,379
The new GOL survey for March is now available, so please make sure to fill it in if you have the time.

After many requests, the publication of the new survey and the results of the previous one have been separated into two articles to prevent confusion. The results of the previous survey will be published in the next couple of days.

You can find the link here, and please share with other Linux gamers if you can! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

After many years of floating through space on the back of a missile, following a successful career in beating people up for not playing Sega Saturn, the missile returned to earth. Upon returning, I discovered to my dismay that the once great console had been discontinued and Sega had abandoned the fight to dominate the world through 32-bit graphical capabilities.

After spending some years breaking breeze blocks with my head for money and being mocked by strangers, I have found a new purpose: to beat up people for not playing on Linux.

Hm, don't know what to say about buying a Steam Machine....depends on who is manufacturing it.
I mean, if some whatever company decides to simply slap together some off the shelf hardware parts and calling it a Steam Machine, then I'm not interested, I already did that. (not that is something wrong with a product like that)

I would be more likely to buy something custom made like the Alienware machine, but something more powerful (the Alienware is too weak for my taste).

But the best scenario for me it would be to buy one made by Valve.
I know, they don't intend to do that for the moment...but you never know.
Even better, I would love to get my hands on one of those original 300 beta Steam Machines.
Is not about their value in money, but rather because I consider them (in a sense) a piece of history.
Also, it pains me to know that some of their owners erased SteamOS and oh, the insult, installed Windows on them.

I'm happy with gaming on Debian. If, which I doubt, there will be a huge performance difference with SteamOS not making it back into Debian, I might dual-boot. But I'm happy with a Linux gaming PC and don't need no "Steam Machine".

Planning on picking up one of these for streaming this year. That's about as close as I will come to a "steambox" (not sure if I'll install SteamOS on it or just stick with Arch like I normally do these days)

I put the Steam Machine question in the very first survey, the idea is to then compare the results to this one.

And then have the same question again next month after GDC when more details are announced to see if things change on the results :)

"Will you be getting a Steam Machine any time after release?" Definitely not a desktop, but considering how hard is to find a good economical laptop without windows preinstalled a steamlaptop could definitely be an option.

Good thinking :)

On a side note, I will buy one to replace the pc i have on the tv. The one i have is very old. Good enough for playing media but not for gaiming. I hope they come with big hd :)

I'll think of it as if I were going to buy a console... A console im really going to like since the first thing Im going to do is to wipe it and install some standard debian. You can't say that about your average console, can you?

Love it, can't wait to see the results of that!

Didn't buy any games last month, so said no to 'buy only Linux games' and none to 'Linux games bought'. Also left all vendors unselected, didn't know if I should've put "didn't buy games" under 'other'.

I can't see myself ever buying a Steam Machine. I just couldn't talk myself into buying a personal computer purposely gimped to exclusively cater to gamers. And if the Steam Machine is just a generic PC with SteamOS pre-installed, what's the point? No, don't answer. I know what the point is. I know there's a big market for simple things in pretty packages. The target audience hardly includes grumpy nerds who have not bought a pre-assembled computer since the Amiga 500.

To sum up: Go Steam Machines! I would never buy one, but I'd happily recommend them to "real" gamers.

I can imagine building my own "Steam machine" with Archlinux in my living room, so I have a real pc there. I could stream from my desktop then :)

For gaming only? No, I have a Wii (not the U) for that purpose.
