Oculus Rift DK1 VR Device Is Now Open Source

The Oculus Rift DK1 virtual reality device is no longer worked on as it has been succeded by the DK2, so what better way to continue life in the DK1 than to open source bits of it?

The good thing about Facebook owning Oculus VR is that they are open source friendly, and this is just one another step for them.

I still think VR right now is in the fad territory, but that's from my own preference of just not wanting to strap some silly device to my face to play games.

Although I would love to be proven wrong about it, so when they eventually have the consumer versions out I will be picking one up to hopefully cover here for a bit of fun. I hope they aren't as pricey as they are now either as $350 is a little bit bank-breaking.

Please, try Elite: Dangerous with Oculus Rift DK2 and HOTAS (Warthog). After that experience, playing space simulators without VR devices feels silly.

It looks silly, agreed, but I can barely wait to play a space shooter with it.
I have enough self-restraint to wait for the consumer version, but that's about it.

I haven't tried it, but having an instruction set might just come in handy. $$$ to build it is another matter.
