Rocket League should be on Linux before the end of December

A forum post from one of the Rocket League team has stated that the game will be on Linux before the end of December.

Taken from here:
QuoteLinux version should arrive somewhere before Dec 31st.

I do wonder what's holding it up, as they stated at the start of November that it was almost ready, but what that means to a developer is probably quite different to our expectations.

About the game
Soccer meets driving once again in the long-awaited, physics-based sequel to the beloved arena classic, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars!

A futuristic Sports-Action game, Rocket League, equips players with booster-rigged vehicles that can be crashed into balls for incredible goals or epic saves across multiple, highly-detailed arenas. Using an advanced physics system to simulate realistic interactions, Rocket League relies on mass and momentum to give players a complete sense of intuitive control in this unbelievable, high-octane re-imagining of association football.

I can't wait to give it a go, so hopefully I will be able to dedicate some time to it when it arrives now I'm finally getting through some of my backlog. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: omer666When you know that the vast majority of them wouldn't even spot the difference between the port and the original without an FPS counter...

Except for all people with lower and or older hardware. Why are all deniers acting like everybody has a 970 or better GPU. I've a pair of 290x - trust me, I notice the performance difference quite well. I'm pretty sure anybody with a 2 gig 960 would be like WTF when his game starts running at 40 instead of 60+ frames.

I obviously can't speak for the "vast majority", but I have a 970, and I notice the difference too. When a game should be able to get a steady 60+ FPS and it's dipping into the 40s, I definitely notice. I don't get why we shouldn't hold developers to high standards just because we're using Linux. That's a like a beautiful desperate woman settling for an old drunk guy who hits her because she's so afraid he'll leave. She deserves better, and so do we. ^_^

Quoting: BonsI am getting more and more the feeling that the porting of new games to Linux is getting slower and slower. And more ports are getting canceled.
In this phase how its now going, i am little concerned that the Steam Machines ever will succeed.

I really don't understand the origin of this Fear, Uncertainty or Doubt. I thought Syber selling out their Steam Machines was a huge success and having over ~1,500 games on SteamOS & Linux on Launch too.

SteamOS is about Valve controlling their own future and not having to live in the Microsoft House or Apple House and follow their rules. With SteamOS, Valve has the leverage to secure their future from 3rd parties demanding a part of their pie because they see them doing well.

Also, any devs that were ramping up for Steam Machine's Launch have already launched, a cooldown seems in order before we get to a steady stream again as the most gun-ho devs already released their games.

Also, even if Valve personally financed or gave a special discount to Game Devs on their cut they could easily throw their weight around to get devs to adopt their platform.

Once gamers are entrenched in this new Steam Ecosystem there is no going back, there are may reasons why Steam Machines are superior to Gaming Consoles - if you ask I'll post my biga5s list.

Also, games developed with Linux in mind from Day 1 perform equal or better on SteamOS - Ark for example does much better on Linux than on Windows 7 imo on the same hardware.

I've got a GTX 660 and I get steady 50 to 60FPS with everything maxed out on 1080p... I don't know how are things going with an older card, but I consider it's performance on my rig to be good enough.

Lets be Honest, the Steam Machine launch date, was not a success, and the Linux platform is still extremely lacking good tripe AAA games for the average consumer. For us Linux enthusiastic people the Linux gaming market is better than ever, but for the average consumer is really not mind blowing, little more underwhelming.

I'm a little concerned about some of the ports as well. I'm pretty sure we were supposed to have GRID Autosport and Payday 2 by now, and I've heard nothing about them for months.

Updated as recently as three days ago, so it looks like it's still coming. No need to worry i hope :)

I don't think the image is adapted to the situation, unless you consider porting AAA games to Linux with altered performance is like hitting us in the face...

Why do you blame porters for the broken and slow AMD drivers? The guy with a 960 will have better performance. Go complain to AMD.
