It's good to see another game from OrangePixel, as I previously tried their Heroes of Loot which didn't hit any notes for me. Luckily, Space Grunts is hitting the right ones.

About the game (Official)
Space Grunts combines fast paced arcade action with turn-based gameplay.
The year 2476, Earth's space-federation has been building moon-bases across the galaxy.

You play as one of the Space Grunts, a team of "problem solvers", and your mission is to find your way into the moon-base, and figure out what has happened.
Find the lower levels of the moon-base, and get to the core of the problems.

Thoughts
I love Nuclear Throne, but recently it keeps getting broken which is souring the experience. I also find Nuclear Throne a bit too hectic most of the time, and haven't been able to progress. This is why I love Space Grunts, as it's giving me a very familiar style to Nuclear Throne, but with the OrangePixel familiar look and feel done in a more interesting way.

For those who aren't familiar, every movement or gun firing is classed as a "turn", so when this happens the enemies all react as well. It gives it quite a nice pace, and enables you to think of your strategy while going as quickly or slowly as you please.

I'm still not getting too far in the game, and the latest run of mine seemed to go down pretty well as I managed to find some pretty slick gear. It helps finding items like an invisibility tech, and a single-use high powered weapon for annoying enemies.

I do rather like the system of upgrades and tech the game has, as it's another way each game you play through will be vastly different. A lot of items are single-use, last x amount of turns, or totally upgrade one of your weapons to better deal with tougher enemies.

I am currently number nine on the daily leader-board, but I don't think I will stay there for very long as I only lasted 20 minutes!

I think it's a cracking little game right now, and can't wait to see the final version.

Check out Space Grunts on Steam, but remember it's early access right now, so it's still evolving. It's also on Humble Store, but it only gives a Steam key anyway.

It is so much Nuclear Throne that I would feel offended if I was Vlambeer.

Indeed, it uses their own visual style from previous games, and this type of game has been done before NT, it's just the most recent to compare it to.
