FYI: The 'Valve time' definition of 'soon' is 8-10 years.

I have the first on both Wii and Steam but never played it through.
Sounds like it's time to finish it.

I still consider this a clear black swan event! Can we be sure that the real Ben Skeggs haven't been replaced by the same sort of clone that's now impersonating Avril Lavigne!!?

If Nvidia will start supporting Nova upstream - that would be good.

A midwife simulator sounds more like one of those creepy skeevy clickbait mobile games that seem to get promoted all over the place...

Quoting: Liam DaweBut that makes literally zero sense in this context. What are they going to extinguish exactly? They're contributing to make their open source driver better - it's exactly what we want.

I think people are just confused why Nvidia has suddenly done a 180 and are worried that it's just another trick rather than some actually good news.

If it was bad news, though, why bother going through the trouble of open-sourcing stuff and then hiring developers? I think the worst thing that could happen is that Nvidia takes all the credit for providing good open-source drivers despite it actually just being the tremendous efforts of a select few.

I'm glad that they did this but I'd just wish that, if they're going to keep this game on maintenance mode, they would just hand this over to an outside team while they keep the IP

Big fan of Ion Fury (I mean I've made several mods for it so obviously). I really hope this comes out good, even if the demo game me some doubts. Ion Fury and Voidpoint will still always be GOATs in my book. Fun fact, Ion Fury has a texture that has a Linux terminal for some of the computer screens in the game. They're obliviously big Linux fans!

Also its my understanding the open-source driver can't do CUDA, DLSS, HDR or HDMI2.1 etc... like its pretty vanilla and may NEVER see those features become a thing?

They support HDMI2.1.
Also it's 20< years not never. Patents aren't perpetual contrary to copyright and trademark.

Quoting: FremenThis is bad news. Can likely lead to the Noveau Driver not being developed properly anymore. Perhaps its Nvidia's way of "shutting down" development on the open source driver with seeming like it is.

Why would they send lots of patches then?

I also lean to them enabling the free driver at least for good AI performance. Don't know if they care for graphics performance here in the same way though.

To be fair this is something that companies like Microsoft are famous for. It's even got a name, "Embrace, Extend, Extinghuish"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_extend,_and_extinguish
But that makes literally zero sense in this context. What are they going to extinguish exactly? They're contributing to make their open source driver better - it's exactly what we want.

Should be noted this update fixed nearly every, if not all issues related to fonts, and even added support for coloured glyphs (i.e. emoji).

If you followed any unofficial Linux fix guides, it would be a good idea to remove files related to Linux-specific font fixes now, as they are no longer needed.

Quoting: Mountain ManI know Paradox gets a lot of flack for their seemingly endless DLC releases, but you have to admit, they do actively support their games for a very long time.

I wouldn't call it a support out of kindness. Their whole business model is based on selling DLCs for years then selling it all over again when they release the next game, so it makes sense their games get a decade of updates, much like what EA did with The Sims 4.

What they (rightfully) get shit for is not quality but quantity. Some DLCs only consist of adding 3 buttons (Dharma for EU4) or like 100 events (Friends and Foes for CK3) which more or less amounts to adding several assets and filling a JSON file with new text, not the big programming gameplay challenge it seems to be). People wouldn't mind so much if those DLCs sold for one buck. Alas it's not the case.

Worse thing is, since they went public, the content per dollar for their releases have gone a steady downward spiral, again, much like every other AAA publisher out there, so, no surprise about this shrinkflation. When you compare for example CK3's Northern Lords to CK2's Old Gods in terms of music, events, gameplay additions, it's... mind-boggling.

Quoting: nenoroI wonder why bsd restrict this function ?
openbsd does that in all programs. Instead of relying on software being perfect with no bugs, if there is a bug and somebody takes advantage of that (a malicious actor) then it has restricted access, minimizing the impact of the vulnerability. Its kinda like what browsers do in tabs, on linux too. If there is a browser vulnerability and a website with javascript tries to use that to do malicious things then the tab is automatically killed by the kernel.

Quoting: Purple Library GuySo, um . . . what is it? Is it an RPG-type thing?
It's like pokemon, but with demons. Except the first game in the series came out long before pokemon. Instead of capturing the demons with a pokeball you talk to the demons and try to convince them to join you. It also has a full story.
