The Interstellar Marines developers have been in touch to point out that their Linux version is currently in testing, but it may be months until we see a release. Their FPS game has been shaping up nicely as I've watched it progress and cannot wait to see more from it.

We don't have many tactical FPS games and it will fill a nice gap for us Linux gamers that's for sure.

To quote the developers directly:
QuoteWe have quite a few challenges to overcome first, so I cannot give an ETA. As you can see we're working on it (and have been working on it for a few weeks now), but it could be months before we're able to release a version for you to test, so please do not get your hopes up.

The depot and manifest shown in that link were a very early version of the client we've run through Steam to allow us to test how it installs through Steam's system.

When we're at the stage where we can drm-wrap a working multiplayer version we'll release it to the community for testing. Again, that could be months away, so please do not think this is coming soon.

As you can see though, it's definitely coming :)

About
Interstellar Marines resurrects the old school tactical FPS, offering a unique blend of co-op, role-playing and nonlinear gameplay. Set in a believable future, you take on the role as an elite soldier handpicked to join Project IM, a top secret military program being assembled to protect mankind from all dangers outside our solar system.

Interstellar Marines is inspired by Half-Life, System Shock 2 and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. Our game is all about evolving the FPS recipe with all the inspirations we've assimilated since the birth of the genre. Our goal is an evolutionary leap forward driven by our compulsive interest in science fiction, role-playing, military realism, and respect for first person immersion.

Finaly! I sometimes log in to my Steam/Wine and try it for a bit. Still lots of work to do, but the gameplay looks fluid.

One of my favourite upcoming games out there. Been playing through wine, and it works well enough. Looking forward to the native version! I hope it'll be out during the summer.

Hey Guys, thanks for the great comments, and thanks to Liam for posting up the news :)

Linux is on the way, we just have some challenges to overcome before we can release a working client to the community. The single player is tested and works perfectly fine, although we have some issues on the multiplayer side and also the Steam distribution side.

We're working on a huge update at the moment, so I'm "stealing" coder time from that to work on linux. We're keeping Liam updated with news, and we're looking forward to being able to tell him LETS ROCK!!!!

Glad this was posted... I'd confused IM with Nuclear Dawn for some reason and written it off.

@Phyrefli: as an ex-Planetside2 veteran and Ubuntu-only gamer now, the moment you put a tux symbol on that Steam page, I'll be buying IM. It looks absolutely superb. Really looking forward to being able to play this one.

Quote from February:
"Absolutely. We've mentioned this a few times in this thread, we're planning on releasing a Linux version during the first half of this year."

Well...I guess that didn't happen.

Was there a need to re-quote that? The developers are communicating and may have a build out in a few weeks if we are luckily, would you prefer they kept waiting and didn't openly talk about it?
