XCOM: Enemy Unknown Nearing Beta For Linux

By - | Views: 27,361
So it looks like XCOM: Enemy Unknown is nearing beta status with a new entry on the SteamDB, not 100% confirmation of course but it looks quite convincing.

If you have been living under a rock we shared that it might come in a previous news post here.

Quoting: Quote from SilviuThe linux depots seem to be populated as well. They were empty/unused just a few days ago... Exciting times :)
It can be fake, to get more money.

It's not profitable to fake games on Linux.

lol, I missed that comment the first time through.
First devs were ignoring Linux because the market is too small and they wouldn't make money off of us. Now they're faking Steam depots in order to trick us into making them rich! Amazing.

Well i can only hope that since K2 is bringing this game to us, that maybe they will bring Borderlands, and Borderlands 2 as well! That would be amazing.

so.. as someone to whom all the sources of speculation linked here mean next to nothing (as in i have no knowledge of a "pattern" compared to the usual information showing up at the databases for titles that DO come out in the end) i ask everyone in mild desperation:
HOW LIKELY IS THIS REALLY??
it (xcom) is on sale for another six hours or so and i'm indecisive whether to dive in based on wishful thinking/ speculative "promise" or not..
thanks in advance to any clarifications.. it is a small step for mankind but a significant one for me.. :) and yes i'm pretty sure i'm not the only one with similar hesitations, so you'll be contributing to the greater mankind a little bit also.. :D
this one would enrich my library of ninety something titles as a rare speciment of a juicier piece of gaming.. don't get me wrong, i love the "small" games, appreciate indies, but metro, the valve classics and the paradox strategies aside, we (the gnu/ linux gamers) have very little of the so called aaa options at the moment..
so.. again.. XD help a brother feel a little confidence as he is about to pull the trigger.. would hate to end up with (another) title that is unplayable for me mostly (have about fifteen of those, all outcomes of similar situations where a title was "heading for linux", some of them confirmed to exist and work on linux, but not on steam eg. amanita design games, braid, etc.) the ten euro being a secondary concern..
thanks.. i want to believe..
cheers..

well.. bought it.. :P doubt that it is "fake" due to the whole depot thing, whatever it means.. :D (did search it and partially understand now)..
the "funny" thing is that this (very page and the g plus outlet of itself) is _the only_ place on the whole vast web (that i have managed to find) that reported anything (at all) about the xcom linux beta.. so.. it's either i love you gol or i hate you gol.. :D no inbetweens.. :D :D :D :D :D..
anyhoo.. hope that it doesn't beat the waiting (time) for portal 2.. :/ or that it does not (ever?? :() appear in my (linux) library since that IS the only way acceptable for me to play it (no, do not want to wine it, thank you very much, did it, i admit, to play diablo iii :P )..
hoping for the best..
over und 0ut.. salutez feLLá lingamers.. :D

Portal 2 is coming next year, to celebrate the Steam Box release. Right, Valve? RIght???

I'm not buying XCOM on sale btw, would just as soon buy it later at full price to celebrate the official Linux announcement :)
