Chivalry: Medieval Warfare coming to Linux soon

By - | Views: 21,308
The folks at Torn Banner Studios have posted this tantalising picture on their Facebook page, with what looks like Tux sitting next to a computer running Chivalry: Medieval Warfare on Linux (although from the picture, it could just as easily be OSX):

The caption underneath it reads “soon…” so I guess this either means that they are porting the game to Linux, or that they are planning on bringing out a DLC where all combatants are replaced with penguins. Chances are this means that yet another AAA title is making its way onto Linux and that our wallets are going to take even more of a beating in the coming months.

This is exciting news and hopefully they will have more details for us soon.

Besiege castles and raid villages in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. Inspired from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare aims to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like a FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional, yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players. After many years of floating through space on the back of a missile, following a successful career in beating people up for not playing Sega Saturn, the missile returned to earth. Upon returning, I discovered to my dismay that the once great console had been discontinued and Sega had abandoned the fight to dominate the world through 32-bit graphical capabilities.

After spending some years breaking breeze blocks with my head for money and being mocked by strangers, I have found a new purpose: to beat up people for not playing on Linux.

Quoting: chrisqThe game is 80% off on gamersgate right now and for 2 more days.
God loves a bargain... but you do no-one except yourself any favours if you buy this before its release. If the developer ported themselves, they'll not see your purchase as a Linux purchase and be disheartened from future development. If the developers outsourced to a thirdparty, that thirdparty is relying on sales AFTER the port is released to make their money.

I am aware of this.
However 80% is quite a bit to pay extra to prove to them that I run linux.
This is an issue with steams identification, they should be lobbied to change their algorithms.

No arguement here, that's for sure. I'm annoyed that I've bought many games in the past that sit in my "to play" list and now I'm fairly certain that they've defaulted to "Windows" because I never got round to playing them. That's pretty weak.

Yeah, X-COM counted as a Windows sale for me. Of course, when an already-purchased Windows game appears in my library, as X-COM did, you bet I'm going to download it. I could have used my Windows purchase of CIV V, but I chose to purchase it on the day of release, especially with every DLC included for $17, and Aspyr got the $$$.
