This is excellent news. Defenders Quest is a fantastic game that was spoilt by the use of Adobe Air, but no more!

Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten is a great mix of RPG and Tower Defence that is being upgraded as "DQ1HD" to feature better graphics and it will use the Haxe language, so no more need for Adobe Air!

The developer tweeted to us to let us know:

@gamingonlinux You'll be happy to know the DQ1HD upgrade will be 100% Haxe, (ie native C++ binary) for maximum Linux.

Set Linux levels to maximum number one!

Official About
Defender's Quest is a Tower-Defense/RPG Hybrid (Think Final Fantasy Tactics meets Tower Defense).

Defender's Quest tightly focuses on three things: tactical depth, customization, and story. That means no random encounters, no spikey-haired emo kids, no forced time sinks, and no tedious, repetitive battles.

The battle system builds off of tower defense, with individual characters taking the place of towers. Each character levels-up, learns skills, and equips gear individually, allowing the player to customize their battle experience and strategy. The overall game structure is similar to "tactical" RPG's, but with a real-time battle system. Game speed is adjustable, and commands can even be issued while the game is paused.

Oh, well. At least I can now play it; this is a 32-bit (gasp) processor, and AIR installed without a burp. I had headaches playing it on a 64-bit system.

I hope it doesn't have static indentation like python does. Who indents like that?

They were in the Humble Weekly Opensource Bundle, supporting the engines Ren'Py and Haxe so it not that unexpected!

They have a great linux "howto" for running they're game and install Adobe Air, while ending with this:

Quote"Our future games will be developed with Haxe/OpenFL so that we can get true native support for Linux without having to mess with this junk."

So I guess it is finally coming! :)
