We recently wrote about the likelihood of seeing Torchlight II on Linux, well it looks even more close now thanks to new information.

As usual, our thanks to SteamDB for their excellent resource:
2 Days AgoChanged App Config
launch/2/config/oslist: linux
launch/2/description: Torchlight II
launch/2/executable: Torchlight2.bin.x86_64

They now have an executable up for Linux, so it looks like a Linux release is extremely close now. Well, saying "extremely" sounds confirmed, but as always until they announce something we will keep an eye on it.

About Torchlight II
The award-winning action RPG is back, bigger and better than ever! Torchlight II takes you back into the quirky, fast-paced world of bloodthirsty monsters, bountiful treasures, and sinister secrets - and, once again, the fate of the world is in your hands!

Torchlight II captures all the flavor and excitement of the original game - while expanding the world and adding the features players wanted most, including online and LAN co-op multiplayer. Torchlight II is fast, fun, and filled to the brim with action and loot. Adventure solo or online with your friends!

If you don't own it; don't buy it until the Linux version is released. Support Linux Gaming.

It's exciting though, as I've seen calls from you lot for more RPG games. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: KeizgonNever touched the Torchlight series, but I hear good things and looks visually appealing. Would definitely buy Torchlight 2 even just to check it out (after official Linux release).
They're pretty good if you like hack'n slash games. Torchlight is a good Diablo clone while Torchlight 2 is a good Diablo 2 clone.

Quoting: KeizgonOne thing I do not understand though, is why Torchlight 1 not on Steam for Linux? I thought about buying that just to check out the series, but I was misled to believe it wasn't available for my OS?
Torchlight 1 has been ported to Linux (for a Humble Indie Bundle). It had a few annoying bugs. I think they've been fixed, though I'm not sure. It's probably still planned to be released on Steam for Linux but there has been no news about it for some time (the last time there has been stuff happening in the depots is 6 monthes ago according to steamdb.info).

Oh, it might be better, or not, that's pretty much a matter of personal taste (besides, I think I've only played it during the beta before it came out, so not much), I was mainly talking about the similarity of the gameplay mechanics in both cases. In other words: if you liked Diablo, you'll like Torchlight and if you liked Diablo 2, you'll like Torchlight 2. Unless you really dislike the cartoonish graphics.

Not really a surprise that the Torchlight games are similar to Diablo as they've been developed by some of the people who worked on Diablo.
