We knew that Larian was working on something big that stopped their work on the Linux version, and now we know what.

Reminder: They still have no release date for Linux, and their last communication on it was that the Linux version was stopped while this was going on. Still seems to be the same, so we have more waiting. That’s not me putting any kind of spin on it, as they stated it directly before.

It sounds like a beefy update though, and actually makes me a little bit more excited to see it finally arrive on Linux. It's not really an update, but a new game in itself and will be a free addition to anyone who owns the original on PC. Not that we've been able to even play that yet mind you.

QuoteAs well as local co-op, split screen and controller support, the Enhanced Edition also features:
All characters are now fully voiced by AAA-voice actors
New quests, new characters, and new content
Entirely new gameplay modes and character builds
A heavily rewritten story with a brand new ending
Massively reworked visuals and sound effects
And much more to be announced in the coming months!

The full gamepad support makes me very happy, especially as they have adjusted the UI for it too.

I just hope we aren’t left waiting another year for it to arrive on Linux.

Quoting: ricki42That doesn't really apply to this situation though. Larian accepted money from people because they promised a Linux version, which, as of now, they haven't delivered. There is nothing the people who gave money can do, they can't discuss the problem with Larian to solve it, because in the end, Larian decide on their priorities and do what they think is best. Complaining is pretty much the only thing people can do (other than just not saying anything and accepting things as they are), and Larian can then decide whether they want to reply or not.
Yeah, unfortunately complaining is pretty much all people can do when things doesn't go as planned with crowdfunding projects but backers should also accept the fact that there is always a risk they don't get the final product. In the cases where the project is struggling with the technical problems I just don't think bashing and complaining helps at all. Adding more fuel to flames by quoting some random reddit user as a Larian employee doesn't help either.

As their latest blog post and earlier news says they had rough times going on as a company and I personally don't be surprised that Linux suffered more than other platforms. I hope this will change once SteamOS is finally being published.

I would like to see other companies take a look how Cloud Imperium Games handles communication about Star Citizen. It is pretty impressive.

Where is the problem for you ?
Divinity: The Original Sin will not be available on Linux but Divinity: The Original Sin Enhanced Edition yes ... If you can't wait the new version, it's not my problem.

That remains to be seen.

And how long have we waited already to find out the original is not coming, but the newer one is? You can then argue we are getting a fuller game, but how long do we have to wait, again? What if it never comes?

Again, the wait is ridiculous but as long as they stay in communication, assuring it's coming, and do deliver I will begrudgingly accept it without being too salty but if they fail this time.... I couldn't even begin to measure my disappointed in Larian at that point.

So as a kickstarter backer, all I can do is cross my fingers and hope for the mythically late promised game.

This is how crowfunded projects are. It's unfortunate but there is always a risk you don't get the end product. If the projects is not ready (maybe doesn't even boot?) I don't see how they could release it.

In the other hand we don't have SteamOS, Shadow of Mordor, Projects Cars, The Witcher 3, etc. lots of other games yet. What if they never comes? We have only promises. This is how Linux gaming is still today.

Answer here : http://www.lar.net/2015/05/15/enhanced-edition/

This had big implications for certain things that were in the pipeline like for instance the Linux version. Our decision essentially meant we could start over again and that obviously got some in the Linux community quite angry at us, but we reasoned that over the long term, it ‘s better the Enhanced Edition has Linux support instead of the original D:OS. It improves the chances of our future games having Linux support too, though I don’t want to commit to that just yet.

Apart from the wait, I'm also wondering if the 'fuller' game will necessarily be the better game. I know they said they'll have 2 separate UIs that you can switch between depending on whether you play with kb&m or controller. But they might still have to make compromises on some gameplay mechanics to make it at all playable with a controller. I don't know if they have said anything about that, about if or how they are going to change the gameplay; I may have missed that. So if anyone knows anything, please correct me on this.

What bothers me the most is that they announced console versions and still haven't done the Linux version.

Thing is that they promised a Linux version of the game as part of their KS pitch. The game is out for what feels like an eternity now and there is still no Linux version in sight. Now they are telling us that it will be a part of the EE, but if I got that right, it's in no shape of form guaranteed that we will get a "day 1" release even for the EE (the opposite, rather). Baseline: Don't promise things unless you have both the will and the means to keep it. We tell stuff like "keep your promises" to our children, so I don't think that can be called "entitlement'". Even if we represent only a tiny portion of the market share, I suppose we still deserve at least not getting promised things that then will not happen.
