The Dying Light Linux Performance Patch Is Glorious, GOL Sneak Peek

Thanks to my friends at Techland I have been able to test the upcoming Linux performance patch. It’s looking mighty fine right now.

I’ve been allowed to share the information with you GOL readers, and it’s quite exciting.

On the same settings across both the old and new private beta patch, the performance difference is quite amazing. This new patch will also add back the Anti-aliasing option (hooray!), and even with that turned on with the new patch the difference was still shocking. I’ve noticed a 20-30FPS increase, and sometimes even higher than that depending on what is going on.

Scenes that previously gave 30-40 have been hitting 60FPS and I’ve seen it go above 90FPS now too.

Specs: Nvidia 970, Intel i5 4670K.

It’s quite hard to get truly accurate screenshots with the game time changing, and video is a no-go as the performance hit isn’t fair to the game while recording. The game is vastly smoother in general.

I'm pretty damn impressed in how much better it performs with their work, and hope everyone will be able to enjoy it soon.

They are still working on it, and a few bits left to do, but it’s coming. It's still a pretty demanding game, just the Linux version won't be so overly demanding in future.

I saw a patch downloading yesterday too, but the performance seemed generally unchanged (it's pretty playable on my system already, so perhaps I just didn't notice the improvement). But since there was no associated announcement on their news page, I'm not actually sure it was this performance patch.

I'd have assumed they'd want to make more of a song and dance about it when it comes out.

There was no public performance patch yet, the last patch was for the dev tools folks.

Well, until this patch is out (I'm really waiting/hoping for SSAO) I have the game on hold and filling my time with DL maps from the Workshop, such as this one:

Is this the same as the latest patch on Steam that came just last week or so? Cause if so, there's a *major* flaw going around: The non-animated faces are back! Yup, the bug from launch is reintroduced.

Colour me not impressed. They can't possibly test the patches on Linux at *all*, before they release them?!

Just give a heads up for AMD R9 2xx users , Tried the new 15.5 drivers and they are awesome. Have posted in the forums too but thought I would mention it here.

It runs fine on a 290x now all high at 1440p get 50 -60 in open now. Certainly better than the 13fps on low @ 1280x1024 I used to get :D


14.12's 13fps @1280x1024 all low/off


15.5's 48fps @1440p all high/on ( view distance is off though)
