Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell Looks Like It Will Also Come To Linux

Okay, now we are being totally spoilt by Deep Silver. Another Saints Row game looks like it will come to Linux, and this time it's Saints Row: Gat out of Hell.

You can find the information as usual on SteamDB (such an awesome resource!):
Quotebranches/port_test/buildid: 568320
branches/port_test/description: Mac and Linux ports
branches/port_test/pwdrequired: 1
branches/port_test/pwdtestgid: 249F35…2294AF

So now, that makes the list:
> Saints Row 2
> Saints Row: The Third
> Saints Row IV
> Saints Row: Gat out of Hell

The only one missing is the original, which isn't actually on PC anyway.

It's a very popular series of games, and having all but the original on Linux is going to be a really amazing thing. Deep Silver do seem to be really rather quickly building up their Linux/SteamOS list of games.

Of course, take it with a bit of salt, as the only one truly confirmed for Linux is Saints Row IV.

About the game (Official)
After the space faring antics of Saints Row IV, many fans asked what we could do next… the answer? Shoot The Devil in the face. Play as either Johnny Gat or Kinzie Kensington as you tear apart Hell in a quest to save the leader of the Saints’ soul. Historical icons, old friends, older enemies, a talking gun, a full length musical number, and a whole lot of other shenanigans all await you in the open world standalone expansion playground that is Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell.

Who's excited?

Thanks for pointing it out FredO. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Great News.

Liam if my information is correct, the first part never was on the Personal Computer (Windows Distributions) published.

It could be one of those, or it could be an in-house port. If they port their engine to Linux, porting each game would just be a formality (not saying it would be quick an easy, of course).

...

I think, that is a In-House Port. All Deep Silver Titles are In-House Ports.

This makes sense, as Saints Row The Third, Saints Row IV, and Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell all use the same engine and reuse many assets, so if you're going to port one of them, might as well port them all, as they're all essentially the same (really fun) game, just reskinned. Saints Row 2 is the weird outlier, but welcome.

As for the first game in the series, it never came out on anything but XBOX 360, so I highly doubt that ever makes its way to Linux. While it would be nice to have the entire series on the penguin, it's not that big of a loss as SR1 is nothing special. While the Saints Row series often gets labeled as a GTA clone by its detractors, the series has forged its own identity over time, to the point where I feel it has its own identity. With that said, SR1 really is just GTA-lite, the series hadn't yet differentiated itself at that point.

Anyway, I hope this is for real, as I haven't played Gat out of Hell yet, as that game came out after I built my newest rig which doesn't have a Windows partition. The earlier games came out while I still had a Windows partition and was still dual-booting and hadn't ditched Windows completely yet.

I think Saints Row 2 and Saints Row 3 where developed buy THQ so they could be an eon port.

Let's hope so, the Metro series ports have great performance. I had some crashs but I can't tell if the Win version is more stable.

If they release SR 2, I will name my next-born child "DeepSilver."

If they release the whole series (less SR1), I will HAVE their child!

(P.S. And although, undoubtedly, all of us are "exciting" people, all of us are probably pretty excited about this Saint's Row news.) :)

Liam, the first one has never been ported to PC to begin with. And it doesn't seem we're missing much as Saints Row didn't become the Saints Row we know today until the second game.

Quoting: TheMagazineNever expected that (almost) the entire series would be ported over! Oh- and liam, are you exiting as well? You must have been so hyped you missed a small mistake ;p

Shhh you saw nothing.

I think I'll buy Gat Out Of Hell when the Linux port will be available. I wanted to buy it since the pre-orders as I love SR, but I didn't have money to do it at this time. A Linux port is a good reason to finally get it. :P
