The Tomb Raider port from Feral Interactive was rough in places at release, so hopefully this new patch will help sort it out.

Changelog
QuoteFixed SSAA Corruption in game menus by using GL_ARB_stencil_texturing when available (GL 4.3)
Fix intermittent hangs due to thread size
Fix crash with using VPN
Fix audio on setups with only ALSA
Fixed audio issue with opening video when playing in certain languages
Use GL_ARB_base_instance (GL 4.1) with GL_ARB_vertex_attrib_binding (GL 4.2) when available to lighten load in driver
Updated compiler to GCC 5.3 for general CPU improvement, especially on AMD CPUs
Improve utilisation of GL_ARB_buffer_storage (GL 4.3) and GL_ARB_direct_state_access (GL 4.4) for performance, especially on Mesa AMD
Assorted other performance patches

The benchmark won’t really show any difference, as this patch was mainly aimed at the problem areas where the FPS dipped quite a lot.

In my own testing the patch has improved certain areas significantly.

In the Helicopter Hill area, which is one of the worst areas in the game, on High settings at 1080p I would see 25-32 (mostly below 30) before the patch looking at the demanding areas. Now it won’t go below 30FPS at all and will go up to 40FPS and often higher looking to that location.

When moving around this area before the patch it would be extremely sluggish. It still bounces around a lot now, but the FPS is always higher and actual gameplay is much smoother.

This is really great news, but I really do hope Feral have some more patches coming down for it to stay around 60FPS more often which is a must for a card like my Nvidia 980ti.

I appreciate the effort Feral Interactive are putting in to get their games up to scratch and look forward to seeing more from them.

You can grab Tomb Raider from the Feral store, or directly from Steam.

I am hoping we will see XCOM 2 get the overdue patch and the Alien Hunters DLC soon for Linux too. This seems like it's out of Feral's hands right now as they sent it to the publisher for approval. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

That's such a shame. I don't care about multiplayer and achievements. The original idea of gaming on a PC was to be independent from vendors (in contrast to consoles). The point of using Linux instead of Windows is being independent. Now everything depends on the Steam platform - both the gamers and the game devs/publishers depend on Valve. This is crazy.

But thank you for being so honest at least. Will spend my money on something different then.

I was waiting for a performance patch before buying, and now with these good reports I was able to buy it from the Feral store earlier today. It hasn't been disappointing me till now. Great looking game and performing really great here!

Thanks Feral!

Performance is significantly improved! I found it playable before, but it's actually smooth now. Much more enjoyable.

Come on, Feral, why couldn't you guys release it like this in the first place?

The game runs very well most of the time: The performance is good with hight to ultra settings, no AA, no motion blur, no VSYNC. 3570k, 8GB RAM and just an old 560ti. I got the following Benchmark results:

MIN 34 FPS
MAX 53 FPS
AVG 44 FPS

Good job! :) Gonna test the same thing on Windows, too, so we know how close the performance will be to the original windows version.

@FERAL: But I got a bug: In some scenarios I got a toatally black screen. Nothing is rendered anymore, the FPS goes up to 300 FPS+. I can't continue to play like that, since I can't see anything at all. I managed one paassage blindly, but now I'm stuck. :(

I'm not going to argue with you about your stance on DRM, I felt similarly at one point in time. However, I think it's pretty obvious that both Valve and Feral care a good deal more about the linux gaming community than GoG does. I'd like to get on board with GoG and I have a decent sized library over there, but I haven't bought anything through them in a while and I make it a point not to just because we're very much an afterthought for them.

It's really impressive how well runs now on my PC compared to the first release. Very well done Feral, thank you! :D

Quoting: GuestWell, I just bought this during the Steam summer sale, and I'm not impressed: forget the laughable scenario, the omnipresent QTEs, the bugs alone are making it unplayable... Like the numerous camera glitches (e.g. suddenly facing the floor), or falling through the map. And that's just with a few minutes of gameplay... Thank god for Steam's refund policy.

Sorry you're experiencing issues other users aren't. :( I'd double check you have a supported systems and drivers and if you do I would contact Feral support with details of your setup so we can investigate further.
