Septerra Core [Steam] is another on the classic games list from Topware Interactive to gain an official Linux version using Wine.

It's currently in Beta, so you need to opt-in to gain access to it. The password for the beta branch is "sclinuxtestbeta", once entered you gain access to the "Linux Beta Test" branch on Steam. Find the announcement here.

I'm fine with old games coming to Linux using Wine, I think that's making good use of the tools we have available to us. It likely wouldn't make enough money to justify going back to years-old source code to port it fully native, source code can easily get lost with time too. As long as it works, works well, and is supported, it's all good. You go onto Steam, click Play and you're ready to get going, that really should be all that matters.

It's a pretty decent jRPG style game. Back in the day it was one of the very very very few jRPG style games on PC. Like so many jRPGs, it gets extremely grindy, which is why I never managed to finish it.

If it makes it's way to a DRM free version i'll pick it up. GOG has Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator but I'm not sure if that's the same game.

There is nothing wrong with these old games comes to Linux with Wine porting.Because, demanding from them a native port will be pointless.I've tried Enclaeve yesterday and it ran nicely.

Another Linux beta I'm hesitant to buy because I don't know how Steam is going to count the sale. It used to be it would count as a Windows sale, but I've run across conversations indicating that's no longer how it works. What's the sale status of these Linux betas, does anybody know?
