Into The Breach [Official Site, Steam] has been announced by Subset Games, the creators of the excellent FTL. It will support Linux, but not at day-1.

Trailer:

From their announcement:
QuoteInto the Breach is a single-player game coming to Windows, Mac, and Linux (although not simultaneously). There is no planned release date. Ben Prunty, FTL’s composer, is making an original soundtrack for the game, and award-winning sound designers PowerUp Audio are heading up the rest of the audio. Chris Avellone is lending his writing talents and world building skills to the team as well.

Featurs
Defend the Cities: Civilian buildings power your mechs. Defend them from the Vek and watch your fire!

Perfect Your Strategy: All enemy attacks are telegraphed in minimalistic, turn-based combat. Analyze your opponent’s attack and come up with the perfect counter every turn.

Build the Ultimate Mech: Find powerful new weapons and unique pilots as you battle the Vek infestation across Corporate-Nation islands.

Another Chance: Failure is not an option. When you are defeated, send help back through time to save another timeline!

It looks and sounds fantastic and I look forward to playing it whenever it arrives! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Unfortunately it's not really a supported feature, and requires a fan-written program to inject the mods' code which (as far as I know) only runs on Windows (though maybe with Wine?). I briefly played around with mods a little bit prior to switching to Linux, and it was kinda fiddly. Although that experience convinced me I was happy with the vanilla game, it would be really neat if mods were actually supported. Hopefully they'll design Into The Breach with this in mind.

Something similar to FTL - Personally I really like it, but others might not - is "Out There: Omega Edition"

Out There: OE is on Linux and you can get it on Android (and other platforms). [I've got it on both those platforms.]

It is a survival rogue-like space adventure, where you are mostly concerned about managing resources in order to survive. It doesn't have the battles of FTL, but managing your resources and surviving, and maybe completing the game requires similar strategic planning and risk-taking.
