Cossacks 3 finally in open beta for all Linux users

Promised many times and repeatedly delayed, Cossacks 3 [Steam] is now officially in open beta for all Linux gamers.

The great news is that the online gameplay is compatible with Windows!

The game seemed to work pretty well when I last tried it during the closed beta on Nvidia. On AMD it's possible it may have issues, as editor BTRE has been unable to run it.

See the full announcement here for further information.

I'm really pleased they are a developer we can keep in our good books for really trying their best to deliver the Linux version.

We will have much more thorough thoughts available when it leaves beta. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

[edit] crashing

Using Solus, tried it with native runtime and steam runtime, in 64bit and 32bit mode.

Not sure what causes this for me yet.... probably the AMDGPU driver or my "different" system libs compared to ubuntu/debian based systems. ldd shows that it finds all necessary libraries on my system though.

This didn't work very well for me. I'm using Arch x64. nVidia blob. 980Ti.
The game had no sound, resolution settings didn't work. Tutorial could not be selected ingame, the selectable campaigns loaded and showed a screen with some nondescript terrain ie there were no rocks, cliff formations or anything of the like, it was completely flat, and nothing was going on. There was no sound and then the game locked up and crashed.
I refunded. I'll check it out later if theres favorable comments from Linux users.
Serious Sam Bogus Detour works great however :D

Quoting: KohriasDoes it count as a Linux sale if I buy now? I'd definitely like to have it but I want the credit to go to our platform.
Yes, of course. All purchases on Steam will count towards the platform it's purchased and played on. To repeat what I say every time: This is only an issue for purchases outside of Steam. I've had this confirmed from many developers.
Ouch... Does that make me a bad supporter? Most of my purchases come through the Humble Bundle/Humble Store. Though, I only play on native linux, I do not even have a windows box, so I do get all of my play time credited correctly.

I do assume Humble Bundle keeps its own stats though. And without a windows box, (and not changing browser user agents strings) I know it counts me correctly.

I am also using Archlinux x64 with current mesa(17.1.3) wiht my RX470.
If I start the game with Steam(runtime) I get an "Access Violation" while being in splash screen. When I try Steam(native) I don't get this error but it go any further.
One funny fact is, when launching Configueration Tool, the screen resolution is something arbitrary high like 27000 x 2800, but everytime I enter this it's something different.

Well, refunding is probably what I'll go for now too. Though, it's still beta, we don't know how it will be in future. Smaller glitches - okay, but not starting is a different topic. Maybe it's Mesa connected though, but if they go for OpenGL > 3.2 - that requirement should be met.

Can you run mods from the Steam Workshop ? I only have a blank page in the Mod Manager launcher, and no mod i've tried is showing. Is it me, or the game, or else ? The game itself has no issue running.
