Cossacks 3 [Steam, Official Site], the strategy title from GSC Game World that is currently in Beta for Linux just got a patch today. It seems the developers are making progress on the Linux issues.

I really do have to hand to them, they truly stuck at it and put out a Linux version after a long delay and they continue to refine the Linux version to improve it.

Along with the usual assortment of fixes, these two stuck out in their changelog:
QuoteFixed an error, rendering Linux players unable to play with Windows users.
Fixed an error, causing units and buildings to render incorrectly on some Linux machines.

Cossacks 3 is currently on sale on Steam for 50% off, get it while it's hot.

About the game
QuoteThis remake of the classic game, that originally launched in 2000, contains all of the elements that distinguish the successful Cossacks games and combines them with contemporary 3D-graphics. Cossacks 3 provides the player with infinite tactical options, including not only the construction of buildings, the production of raw materials, but also the broad selection of various units and the influence of the landscape.

Sixteen nations, 80 different unit types, 100 research opportunities, and over 180 different historical buildings are available to the player. Besides the battles ashore, players can build an armada and attack their enemies at sea. Cossacks 3 offers five historic single player-campaigns and up to eight players can fight each other in multiplayer-mode on one map. The player can forge alliances with or against others as well as challenge the computer. Randomly generated maps provide endless variations and can be adapted to the gamer’s needs.

Won't launch on openSUSE Tumbleweed. I had the config show up once. It had some numbers that made no sense, but raised them to the maximum and tried to launch. I hope the issue gets resolved soon. I miss playing an Age of Empires game (no, I won't buy AoE and give Microsoft money).

Yea, sad the issues on AMDGPU and/or newer libs. I still could not figure out whats wrong, maybe we will get it fixed at some point.

Not refunding yet, I still have time and seeing that they do care I have hope for it to work some day. Could be a Mesa/AMDGPU issue too.

Quoting: robiniseenbanaanI bought the game. It works fine, but sometimes it just freezes and crashes and sometimes there is no sound. Is this just me or is this also a bug?

Nah, it's not just you. I have emailed the developer about this, but I'm sure they would appreciate your input as well. since it is a bit annoying when it crashes right as it auto saves (or when you save manually for that matter)

Quoting: MaelraneArchlinux, Mesa, AMDGPU... hangs at splashscreen at the beginning. Refund time! (third time in general -.-)
Quoting: SteamAs version was tested only in closed beta, we call it Beta-version at this moment, we want to make it final and comfortable with help of our community.
What will be fixed in nearest time: resolution change parameter, Steam Workshop and achievments. If you found any bugs, please, send us info on [email protected] or to our's official social pages private messages.

But you already know what the word "beta" means? Did you report your error?

Cool, in some blog/forum post it says it's still beta, while at the store page it simply has the steamos icon :)

But yes, I do know what Beta means, and no, I don't care.

Quoting: IdleGandalfI got no sound ingame as well. The discussion thread on steam indicates that this is more likely to happen on Arch, don't know what's causing it tho.
I'm on Arch and the sound works fine when using the steam-runtime, e.g. set the launch options to: ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/run.sh %command%

That fixed it indeed. It's strange since I thought I tested it with runtime enabled. Thanks anyways. So I guess there is a newer version of a system lib at fault? Since I checked the cossacks executable with ldd and it looked fine.
