THQ Nordic have announced that they've swallowed up another IP, this time it's Carmageddon from Stainless Games. It's interesting, since we were supposed to get Carmageddon: Reincarnation on Linux.

Stainless originally made a Kickstarter back in 2012, which had a promise of Linux support as a platform. Years later, they revamped the game into Carmageddon: Max Damage and we're still here six years later without Linux support for the game. Part of the problem, is that Linux support was a "stretch goal" at $600K (see here) and they did get funding of over $625K.

“Carmageddon finally crashed its way into our portfolio. Some pedestrians and a couple of members of the Bovinae subfamily might have (virtually) been killed in the process” added Jan Binsmaier, Publishing Director at THQ Nordic. “With over twenty years of franchise history, and yes, I feel a little older just saying this, and such a passionate and dedicated fan-base worldwide, we are confident we hit the right target.”

THQ Nordic have actually put out a few Linux games, so there's at least some hope there. They did the revamps of Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, Silver, Imperium Galactica II and others which gained Linux support in the process. They also publish a few other games from smaller developers that also have Linux support. So they're at least a friendly name to have around.

Original announcement can be found here. Also on the Stainless Games site.

Quoting: ExidanI wound't say they support linux. They just seam to don't care if the devs port it or not, looking their steam page its majority is windows only games.
They literally did the Imperium Galactica II, Silver and Sphinx ports themselves.
True but didnt they use the one man porting team ryan c gordon for desperado true they have not said no we are not bringing x game to linux but they have not confirmed it too. I would love it if they do become a full blown linux publisher would love to see Red faction guerilla i already own it but would buy it again to support that port.
Desperado was not from Icculus, the same person announced the update on that who spoke about the three previously noted titles from THQ. They have their own team for this sort of thing.

That's great I stand corrected however while I appreciate the effort of porting very old games but maybe giving a timeline or a overview of how many titles they plan on porting given that THQ nordic now have a vast vast library they started with a handfull of ips from THQ and their own older titles but now with the aquistion of Deep silver they have Homefront/Metro/Saints Row/Darksiders/ Red Faction and they keep buying older ips they even bought timesplitters ip https://www.engadget.com/2018/09/13/thq-nordic-kingdoms-amalur-copernicus-38-studios/?guccounter=1 and hell they have the rights to Frontlines fuel of war would love a sequel but doubt it will happen.

Stainless is dead and buried, I was expecting the Carmageddon website to go offline soon, so any other company acquiring it is good news. I just hope they're aware that the fan base nowadays isn't as "passionate and dedicated" as it used to be. Stainless made a great job disappointing everyone.

I'm just running the full gamut of emotions right now. I've never been pissed off at a developer team before as much as I have Stainless and their troll employees.
Monumentally agree. Much anger wasted on those bottom-feeders, all in vain.

OG Carmageddon is one of my all-time faves.
Such fond memories of multiplayer madness... and the revelation of playing it with Glide on a 3DFx card (Voodoo2 anyone?)... even the campaign mode was crazy with the AI making very bizarre choices... and the police happily smashing your car to a pulp with their blasted supercharged murder-tank... or driving a insane dragster that could barely turn at all... I could go on! :D

If i remember correctly, they (Stainless) released at some point a picture of a car driving over pinguins, didn't they ?

Well, they didn't GET the stretch goal, did they? Since it wasn't met, they didn't have to commit to making anything, did they?

Any of our community that went presuming that since they offered as a stretch goal that we'd get it eventually and acted accordingly got PRECISELY what they had coming from Stainless, unfortunately.

Mate, it's the fact that they promised it, then some of their employees went on to troll us about it. That's shitty behaviour, and unbecoming of professionals. That is what pissed us off.

And they did beat the stretch goal by 25 grand.
