A quick tip for you this morning! Alien: Isolation, one of the scariest games I've ever played has hit an all-time low price. Yesterday was 'Alien Day', a yearly celebration of the Alien franchise that happens on April 26 due to the moon in the first two films designation as LV-426.

To go along with Alien Day, Alien: Isolation hit a ridiculous price of £1.49 on Humble Store and the whole collection can be picked up for £8.74. That is an insane price, even for just the base game, considering how impressive it is and how long it is. That's a lot of game for less than £2!

Originally released in October 2014, Alien: Isolation later came to Linux in Ocrober 2015 thanks to a port from Feral Interactive and they did a great job on it.

If you never got a chance to see it, our livestreamer did a full playthrough on our Twitch Channel, where something pretty hilarious (warning: sweary) happened.

See the full Alien Day sale on Humble Store, or Steam if you prefer. You've got another 30 or so hours to pick up a copy and I do thoroughly recommend it.

Quoting: GuestAnyone here who can tell me what they exactly mean with AMD and Intel not supported? I assume that you can still play it but yeah.

this game came out 1yr after steam linux client
linux gaming kinda sucked back then

some older games have this warning like witcher 2, which works for me
QuoteMESA based drivers (e.g. "nouveau", "radeonsi") are not currently supported.
shouldnt be a problem today
Ambient occlusion (SSAO) doesn't work properly if set to HDAO on Mesa 20.0.5, but "Standard" seems fine. Otherwise runs perfectly with everything maxed out at 1080p on my hardware, but that's no surprise.

I just picked up the game today on Steam, so I'll give it a try tonight. For $2.00 you can't complain about the price. ;)

Quoting: C7zI love this game soo much I just can't play it on linux native port does not support surround sound and proton does through steam start up menu code but using analog sound card I get surround sound but no bass/lfe so it sounds soo flat have to play in windows to fully enjoy this title such a shame where linux would be my preferred choice.

Have you tried playing the game with 'steam-native', which doesn't use the steam runtime?

I remember reading on Archwiki that one benefit of playing a native game with that is surround sound can be made to work on certain games that otherwise wont due to the runtime having old libraries. That said, I still usually play with steam-runtime just to reduce the risk of ABI breakage. But native-runtime is worth a try.

I couldn't even get past the tutorial of this game - too scared, I was preparing myself to look straight into an alien face around every single corner until I had no more nerves left to continue 😂

I should order a 30 pack of underwear and play this in VR.

In my opinion one of the greatest games of this genre. If you like this one you should definitely play it once. Great cinema and worthy of the excellent movie in all respects!

Quoting: GuestThis is a very bad game, there’s an alien that moves randomly and one-shoots you, it’s not fun at all.
This is not an FPS. It's a quieter, smarter, slower type of game. The alien is indestructible but the fun is in learning its patterns and avoiding him in an intelligent manner. Together with the facts that many things you do require attention to perform (crafting, opening some doors, burning open panels, etc.), it makes for incredibly tense moments and legitimate scare and startling feelings.

Its quality in the genre is widely recognized and it made a mark in game design, you can check all the videos analyzing it on youtube. Frankly, it's awkward to try and explain this is not Aliens: Space Marines, it's a superb survival horror game. But it seems that once people only know a hammer, they think everything is a nail...
It is also a proper sequel to Aliens. The story very much mixes that in, if I recall. But is more along the lines of the original Alien in pacing and style.
I only got so far into it, definitely one on my list of 'will eventually play for sure'.
I still need to win Penumbra, that game gives me high anxiety though!

The atmosphere is great, hence I'm looking forward to replay in VR after we get the new HP/MS/Valve headset.
Played it through with a few crashes back then Nvidia was to blame. Nowadays bugs should be all fixed. Hide and seek gets somtimes boring, should be more FPS scenes but I loved the steam, textures etc. in my old Odyssey VR.
