GOL asks: what are you playing? Come chat

By - | Views: 29,418

As another week comes to a close it's time to have a chat with the GOL readership about what you're all playing lately, come and let us know.

This week saw the release of the absolutely magical Spiritfarer. I can't get over how wonderful a game it is, fully deserving of all the praise it has been receiving. Taking care of spirits, while doing a little building and crafting on your fancy boat while also giving out hugs to those spirits that need it. Absolute joy.

Spiritfarer is just so lovely, we're going to need Sin to livestream it I think. Keep an eye on our Twitch Channel for that. Although, with 7 Days to Die Alpha 19 being out it's going to be difficult to tear Sin away from it.

Quite a bit of my own personal time has also been testing out NVIDIA GeForce NOW. It's another game streaming service, which recently opened up to Chromebooks / ChromeOS in the browser so it works on Linux too. You can see a video of Fortnite running here as another example. It's certainly an interesting service but I still personally much prefer Stadia technically speaking, as I find it just works much better overall but I won't deny how good NVIDA did the game access side of things by it using existing accounts for people. Over the next many years, it will be very interesting to see all these cloud services fight for users.

I've also personally continued playing Orcs Must Die! 3 on Stadia with a partner, the huge battleground battles are just so much fun it's ridiculous. Getting to launch catapults at hundreds of Orcs, while another is running around hacking away at them is quite a sight.

As a reminder of some deals going:

Not much gaming for me. Besides visiting family, I'm also preparing to wire my house in Cat5/6.

Unfortunately, my house was built at the time techniques and materials were changing from the early 20th century to more contemporary times, and takes the worst if both: old construction techniques with cheap materials.

On the plus side, I can now say I've seen a joist and a wall interior also used as an air duct...Wtf

Last Epoch is what I'm exploring; a Torchlighteque crawler, with auto targeting of spells and extensive skill tweaking. Still EA, it is continually being upgraded and new content is being added. It is not finished yet, but what is there is very good indeed.

Last Souls game i will play for a while. Demons Souls with RPCS3 60fps, dof and bloom disabled and almost 1440p res. Also testing out how the flask system that is in Dark Souls would work in Demons Souls.

So im using 5 health items only and (recharge) those at warp points. Seems to be working pretty good though you have to grind the health items and that becomes bit tedious. Really hope they put the health flasks in the remake/remaster to reduce grind and make the boss battles more interesting.

5 health flasks max is how these games are best played IMO. You get some really nice boss battles playing that way.

Basically now played Demons, Dark 1-3 in a row. Weirdly enough it does not seem to get that boring. Though i really hated the second one. The one that would actually need the remake.

Mortal Shell, which is serving as a reminder on how terrible I truly am at Souls-like games

I've been playing Supraland, though not playing as much this week because of other things going on. It's a game I probably would not have bought if it didn't have a native Linux version, but which I am now forced to play through Proton as the Linux version quit working, and never worked as well as running through Proton anyway (which I discovered only after I bought the game).

I've also been playing a bit of A Short Hike, which is nice for a bit of low stress game play.

Edit: Someone I know was also strongly recommending I try Oxygen Not Included, though if I do, I will probably wait to catch it on sale (it is also in my "Players like you love this game" list on Steam).

I've been playing Rocksmith 2014 until my fingers were sore. It works great if you use the ASIO support and add WineASIO into your proton prefix.

Quoting: aokami
Quoting: fagnerlnSome Linux games on GoG can't run anymore as it uses outdated libs, needing expertise to set the environment. As they don't support Linux in their Galaxy client (don't even allow to download). I'll never buy anything on GoG, until they support us like we deserve. Steam > GoG, f*** this DRM philosophy.

Have tried checking Lutris installers ?
Usually people try the best to keep the games working there, it might be worth a shot.

Oh, I forget about Lutris, I will try it.
