I am terribly jealous of anyone who is able to grab one of these. Valve just announced the Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White is coming soon.

Available starting November 18th at 11PM UTC, like the previous Limited Edition there will be only limited quantities available so it's very much first come first served until they run out. Unlike the other Limited Edition though that was US only, this will be available everywhere the Steam Deck currently is and that includes the newly launched Australia region.

Stock will be allocated "proportionally" across each region, with separate availability between US, CA, UK, EU, AU, and regions covered by KOMODO (Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea).

Valve say the Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White has all the same specs as the Steam Deck OLED 1TB model, but in white and grey (and it comes with an exclusive white carrying case).

Same price as the previous translucent Limited Edition at $679 USD.

Why are they doing this? From the press email sent to me:

Last year, we released a smoky translucent limited edition Steam Deck OLED as an experiment to find out if there was interest in alternative colorways (there was!). This is our second experiment along those lines. The difference this time (aside from the color!) is that we're able to ship the Limited Edition White to all regions where Steam Deck already ships. We're curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new color variants down the line.

We've been super happy with the reception of Steam Deck since we first launched the LCD version in March of 2022. We've always said our intent is to continually work on improving Steam Deck, and that's true from both a software perspective (continuing to ship improvements) and a hardware one (Steam Deck OLED, as well as ongoing work toward the future of Steam Deck and other hardware plans).

As always, we're looking forward to hearing feedback from customers once we start shipping.

Keep an eye on the Steam Deck website for when it goes live to buy one. It's restricted to 1 per account, and you must have made a Steam purchase before November 2024 to be able to buy one.

reminds me of the iphone 4 (or was it 5?):

After months/years of hard development we are proud to present the most amazing feature there has ever been - we now sell it also in white!

and of course it costs more...

sales must be going pretty bad lately if they have to come up with such stuff to get attention again...
Dunno what everyone's excited about. This "white" colour does not sound very much like purple to me.

It has been discovered that some people find the colour purple offensive and therefore new international laws have been put in place to rectify this issue.

Going forward no products or designs may feature the colour purple.

(Joking! )

i can understand making an limited edition for transparency, but white? seriously?
anyway, i prefer black since its less distraction from the games thenselves/ less reflective of light.
or glossy like the nintendo ds that had an tranparent plastic on top of an opaque one.

uhm... if i purchase one of those limited editions and break it... the reapair will kill the major difference of it, unless ifix is providing replacement parts for those limited editions... unlikely
Also known as the "Your grubby hands will have this thing looking like trash in no time" edition.

White? No.
Beige? Hell yeah!

I think I'd rather have a grey one personally, maybe that SNES look a bit with the concave buttons on top.

Was waiting for a limited edition to come back but, was hoping to see the translucent one come back or a variant on it.
A lot of people wanted a white one though so should make em happy.

My first hour pre-order deck isn't holding up as well as I'd like and an OLED one is what I wanted in the first place.
Was just too soon for a limited edition one for me that year later.
Two years later it's a bit easier to accept and now they got the OLED kinks out of the way.

Hopefully the regular OLED might get a sale and I'll just get one of those and mod the shell.
That or maybe a chance to buy this one then resell it when its out of print to cut the price down for the "upgrade" and get a regular black one with the funds.
