Open-world survival game Valheim is officially going to leave Early Access on September 9th, bringing with it a huge update to the game.
The 1.0 update will come with the next biome, Deep North, which sounds like it will be quite a challenge. It's going to be cold with a lot of snow and ice, so surviving and exploring there might be quite perilous. You can expect to find new types of food, enemies, crafting materials, new things to build in your homes and a lot more.
One thing they previously mentioned is some "massive structure" that marked the end of Hervor's journey (a little mini series they did) as they teased "What lies beyond this gate shall remain a mystery for all but the truly worthy, however". I'm definitely curious to know what they have planned there for the end-game.

In their announcement they mentioned the release will also arrive on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. With full cross-play that includes Windows, Linux, macOS, XBOX.
Quoting: PyreticCongrats to the team on the full release! Can anyone chime in on how this plays on Linux compared to Windows?Linux version performs brilliantly as long as you choose Vulkan (not openGL) and have a card from the last 4 - 5 years.
Ive tested it on
- (old card, what a beast it was..) nvidia 1060 (6GB)
- 7800 XT (16GB) - play highest settings - and getting 180 fps.
Not sure about arc support (never tried it)
Quoting: PyreticCongrats to the team on the full release! Can anyone chime in on how this plays on Linux compared to Windows?Valheim has a native working linux version, they've fixed some EA problems already like catching the mouse properly.
I have no problems, but I've got a beast of a PC.
Quoting: morgancoxukI played it on a R9 380 when it came out, bought that in 2015. No issues.Quoting: PyreticCongrats to the team on the full release! That said, I put in quite a few hours into this game when it came out. Haven't played it in over 4 years. Didn't even realized it was EA, until now. Is it worth going back to it?
Quoting: SkullVonBonesIs it worth going back to it?Odin waits. Don't let his patience run out. π
My hope is there'll be a round of overhauling parts of the game they haven't touched in a while, with the experience gained from doing all the later game stuff. Polish things up, maybe throw a few scraps to folks like me not good enough to get to the mid/late game, and so forth.
Quoting: NezchanI'll probably never be good enough to see most of the biomes, if we're being honest, but real cool they're finally completing all the lands.Been there, but you can do a lot about it! I really suck at Soulskike games, but in valheim you first and foremost have to find your own rythm. Most of the time the answer is good preparation and not to panic. In combat, i tended to run far too much, which drained stamina and kept me dying. Another thing to do if you struggle: drop down the death penalty to casual or so. The skill drain is too exhausting for many people before they managed to make good use of the no-skill-drain timer, and even then it is helpful. As for the ashlands... yeah, PTSD-Country.
Best advice though: go in with one to three friends. Its so much more fun to struggle, and helping comrades to get their gear back has led to the most hilarious scenes in my entire gaming life.
I hope to get my gang back for the 1.0.
