Drive a horse-drawn cart through plague-ridden Transylvania in the first-person gothic adventure Night Cart: The Immortal Plague that sounds rather interesting. Indie developers just keep on making unique looking games, and the atmosphere here looks great.
Speaking to GamingOnLinux over email the developer described it as:
"The best way I can describe the game is a King’s Field IV-like with an open-world structure: heavy first-person combat, obscure discoveries, oppressive atmosphere (due to the plague and a militarized church faction going nuts and purging everything) and minimal hand-holding.
The combat is slow, deliberate first person melee + early firearms, with blocking, parrying, dodging. There is wildlife, plague creatures, gunners, horse riders, knights in armor and of course, bosses."
Love the sound of it, especially the effect system that allows you to combine potion effects directly with your weapons and general gear. They shared some examples:
- Ignite a sword with a Fire Bomb and use it to light a pyre that burns creatures (or attracts others to your location).
- Douse yourself or the pyre with water to extinguish the flames.
- Infuse bullets or melee weapons with different effects (yes you can create a sword that cuts and then heals or a magic healing bullets. Or give the plague to your targets if you infuse your weapons with the plague effect).
- Plague spreads from infected creatures and rats and accumulates through exposure.
See the trailer below:

Direct Link
- Use your horse-drawn cart to travel between roads, ruins, settlements, and wilderness, stopping wherever curiosity leads you.
- Travel with Nera, an immortal companion who fights alongside you, comments on the world, and reacts to your journey.
- Explore interconnected roads, wilderness, ruins, caves, churches, cemeteries, laboratories, and other hidden locations, each with its own enemies, discoveries, and rewards.
- Fight deliberate, dangerous encounters in first person using charged melee attacks, firearms, alchemical tools, movement, and the environment itself.
- Choose when to fight, when to move past danger, and how deeply to explore. Use consumables, your horse, explosive objects, terrain, and your equipment to turn encounters in your favor.
- Apply potions to your weapons and create devastating combinations.
- Challenge powerful enemies and bosses guarding key locations, then use what you discover to push farther into the region.
- Meet memorable characters, uncover environmental stories, and piece together the mystery surrounding Count Saint Germain and Nera.
- Immerse yourself in a haunting atmosphere inspired by Romanian history, folklore, and gothic horror.
Their currently plan is to have the game release early November, with a demo sometime ahead of release.
Quoting: Jarmeratmosphere seems awesome! Reminds me a little of Tainted Grail which I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE, so that's great haha. I did read the dev faq though and it does appear melee is designed to be required in the game (I guess similar to witcher3 or kingdom come), which unfortunately means a hard pass from me. It does seem like an awesome weird indie gem though so I hope it does really well! Not required as in mandatory, but I have yet to complete a play through of it where I had enough bullets for the rifle, blunderbuss, hand cannon during all combat sections :)).
Thank you for the kind words!
The best way I can describe the game is a King’s Field IV-likeMaybe that's a useful reference for someone, but I've never heard of King's Field, and it's not on Steam.
Edit: Ah, a PS2 game from 25 years ago. So probably a bit too obscure for most of us?

Seems like an awesome game for those not prone to vertigo. Does it have a third-person mode?
Quoting: CaldathrasAh, first-person and nighttime darkness. I can feel my vertigo stirring already. 🤮Sadly no, not at this point and I cannot promise it in future updates. This game was specifically designed for a first person perspective. Sad to hear about the vertigo. But maybe I can pass a steam key to you at launch to help me out a bit and tell me how bad it is for a person with vertigo?

Maybe I could add some options and we can test some stuff to see what makes it better/eases the feeling. I already added the ability to toggle off first person animations and camera enhancements (like bobbing, acceleration of the camera, smoothing, etc) for people to be able to customize the game interaction to their needs. With a little bit of luck I can also add support for some of the color blindness. Vertigo could be up next on my list of updates.
Quoting: ZapaWow. I appreciate the offer and I am more than willing to help out. However, I am not certain if my laptop will meet the minimum requirements. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T580 with a 2GB Nvidia GeForce MX150 dGPU and an Intel Core™ i7-8650U CPU. I find most games run well for me at 720p and I can sometimes push it as high as 900p. The dGPU is about the equivalent of the GT 1030 desktop chipset, just below the minimum requirement. Other games with the GTX 1050 minimum have run fine for me at those resolutions.Quoting: CaldathrasAh, first-person and nighttime darkness. Quoting: CaldathrasIt’s probably gonna work. I had just tested that the game starts on an Elitebook 2170p with ubuntu and forcing glcore. 60fps interior scenes, 12 fps open world.Quoting: ZapaWow. Pretty sure on your 1030 it’s gonna run better. I’ll DM you in a few weeks, as I wrap up optimisations.
Thanks :)
