Inspired by the Minecraft Redstone system, minimalist puzzler 'Pight' is a real gem

Minecraft Redstone tends to melt my brain in a frustrating way, but the minimalist puzzle game Pight makes me feel somewhat smart. Disclosure: key provided by the developer.

Created by Mindlabor who also made a few other minimal puzzle games like Quadrata, Lovux and Netoo that are all positively rated by Steam players.

Pight is a pure to the bone puzzle game with zero text and no hand-holding. You learn just by clicking the blocks and see how they push things around as you attempt to solve each level. All you have to do is get the light block to turn on by hitting a little spinning power blip. You do so by shoving it around using pistons, sticky blocks, portals, and dynamite across evolving puzzle chains. All while some soothing tunes play to attempt to keep you relaxed enough to go through it.

Key Features
  • Minecraft-Inspired Logic: Push and pull blocks with pistons, sticky mechanics, dynamites, portals and more to solve intricate grid puzzles.
  • 90 Evolving Levels: Features 8 unique mechanics that unlock every 10 levels, keeping the progression fresh and engaging.
  • Zero Text, Zero Stress: Pure experimental design with unlimited undos, no time limits, and no penalties.
  • Relaxing Audio Design: A peaceful, cozy soundscape crafted to keep you focused.

How long it takes will simply depend on your own brain power. It may have a simplistic and inviting overall design and style but the puzzles do become quite a bit devilish when you get further into it. No guesswork needed though, it's pure logic on how everything works but some levels do take a bit of trial and error before you hit that eureka moment and all your mouse clicks fall into place and then — hazzah! Level completed.

It makes you want to do one more level, and then another and…of course you must do another because you start to feel quite accomplished as it quickly dumps more game mechanics in but it manages to never feel overwhelming. Still made me sweat a little and scratch my head but in a satisfying way. Some levels really do make you feel like an idiot though, to the point that I found myself audibly laughing out loud at my own stupidity once I finished it.

It manages to do a lot with so little. Especially with the different types of blocks. Like the sticky pistons, sometimes placed in a way that makes you think you need them when you don't. You need to think outside the box a little, and really study how each piston will move things around.

For £3.59 when it's not on sale it's a great deal for fans of puzzle games. Pight is a wonderful little gem to add to your collection - another must have for fans of accessible puzzlers.

Zero problems with the Native Linux version that was tested on Fedora KDE 44. Super smooth as expected.

Review Score: 4 / 5 - Great
