GE-Proton 11-7 has arrived and there's quite a lot of gaming improvements here for SteamOS / Linux fans.

Confused on all the Proton versions? Fair enough, there's a lot. Check out our guide on all the different versions of Proton and also how to install GE-Proton. Usually you'll want to stick with Valve's official Proton unless there's something you really need in GE-Proton for best support.

Key changes
  • Wine Wayland improvements.
  • Improvements for launchers for NCSOFT Purple, Lineage II, Forza Horizon 5, Marvel Rivals.
  • There's also bug fixes for the likes of Black Desert Online, Final Fantasy XIV, Lineage II, Aion, Civilization VI, Dragon Age: Inquisition Painkiller Black Edition, Diablo IV, Forza Horizon 6, Path of Exile 1 & 2 and more.
  • Video playback fixes.
  • Controller improvements (like DS5 / DualSense).
  • Improvements for the Steam Overlay.

FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

We already know GE uses generative AI for some bits, and it seems the changelogs are now using AI to round everything up because they're a lot more wordy and in-depth on everything with entirely different formatting. For better, or worse, that's how GE updates roll now.

AI generated commit messages are crimes more serious than AI generated climate catastrophe 😆. How can any text be so wordy yet so vacuous? Bring back "General bug fixes and improvements" - all is forgiven!

While Proton-GE likely won't ever die, I feel we are definitely going to start seeing the quality of nearly all of it start to degrade more and more as time moves on and GE begins to lose more and more of his built up skills by using it

Has anyone else been noticing more unstable frametimes since around 11-3? It's pretty much across the board for me, while experimental is fine. I've been using Cachy Proton for games where I want HDR now, though that has its own issues.

Those release notes are bland; they lack flavor.

Just noticed that my DS4 gamepad does not work at all with ProtonGE newer than 11-3. For now ill have to use ProtonCachyOS with Heroic launcher.

Maybe it's due to vibe coding. I think there was a lot of controller stuff done with later ProtonGE's.
