Hello Games are truly expanding No Man's Sky into a forever space sandbox aren't they? The new Cosmos update is out and it's another massive one.
Exciting for the upcoming Steam Frame too - as they added support for "foveated rendering on PCVR". Which will help performance, since it will render at better quality towards where you're looking. Sounds really neat.
Pretty cool to see it directly in No Man's Sky, hopefully something I'll be able to test whenever we can purchase the Steam Frame (Valve still haven't replied to GamingOnLinux on it).
As for other additions to No Man's Sky the Cosmos update brings in space station management, orbital building, massive space hulks to find and salvage, an alliances system, deep space outposts, a new star system map and to bring it all together - much more space exploration is now possible including the ability to reach the sun (not that you'll want to…), developer commentary and so much more. You can even just leave your ship in space and float around to do some spacewalking.
You can check out the update page for the full info and see the videos below:

For players on Steam Deck / Steam Machine I will note one very annoying quirk - it refuses to let you use any other gamepad layout in Steam Input apart from the official one. It will always revert back to the official layout. Annoying, because by default, the Inventory button was broken and kept taking screenshots.
A problem that has been reported to them, quite a few times, and still not properly solved. In the end, I discovered you could put Steam Input for your gamepad config into Mouse / Keyboard, then back to the official layout and then it all works properly.
Aside from that - wow. I am shocked at just how smooth it is on the Steam Machine at 2560x1400 on the High preset with FSR 2 not budging an inch below 60FPS. I really do think my Steam Machine is now about to turn into a No Man's Sky machine because I got instantly sucked back into it on a fresh save to really check out everything new over the last few updates.

Setting another controller layout is one of the most fundamental features of Steam Deck / Machine due to lack of other inputs, and that being broken is just unacceptable.
I like Abandoned Mode, but I guess you can't make that kind of base there.
Edit: dammit, it's AMD that doesn't support FSR4 for Vulakn titles :/ The last time I used Optiscaler to use FSR4 in NMS in VR under Linux crashed my Ubuntu system so badly, that I couldn't get sound working afterwards and had to reinstall the system...

Quoting: BoldosCan a player own and operate more that one ship or station already? 🤔AFAIK you can own a handful of small starships and change wich one you use, you can have one big freighter and with it about a dozen or frigates or so. Then you can build your own corvette completely from scratch on top of it. You can have multiple settlements on planets, and now even a complete station. Unlimited number of Bases too.
Its almost like a second job. 😁
Edit: oh and a squadron of wingmen, too... phew.

Honestly though, the fact that the game is now 10 years old, and they've never charged for any update since launch is insane. It's a fantastic game that I've thoroughly enjoyed playing, and Hello Games' support after that disastrous launch has been nothing short of phenomenal.
I don't think a single owner could complain if they do start to sunset major updates for the game soon, as they've given us a decade's worth of content for free.
I'm definitely on board for LNF, and can't wait for its release.
