Revealed during the Steam survival crafting fest recently, we're getting another dose of survival in Stranded Deep 2.

From the press release sent to GamingOnLinux:

"Developed and published by North Beach Games, with Stranded Deep co-creator Sam Edwards heading up the team as Creative Director, Stranded Deep 2 expands the survival sandbox experience into an unforgiving desert wilderness. Rather than being stranded in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, players must now survive within a harsh landscape shaped by scorching heat, winding rivers, towering canyons and deadly wildlife, with a whole new world of biomes to explore and resources to discover.

Stranded Deep 2 is a frontier exploration survival game. Players start as survivors, grow into explorers, and gradually discover that there is far more to the world than simply staying alive. At the heart of the experience is an endless river world, carving through canyons, dunes and valleys and providing a lifeline into a vast wilderness filled with danger and discovery."

Sounds like it will be a much bigger game than the original with the developers mentioning how they've created a much more modular foundation. They said this will allow them to more easily expand it with new biomes, locations, wildlife, crafting and so on. On top of that, co-op is in as a "first-class feature" so you can bring a friend along.

Key Features
  • Explore an Endless River World
The river carves through canyons, dunes, and valleys, connecting a vast desert landscape filled with hand-crafted locations. Navigate rapids and treacherous waters with your kayak or raft. Every world is different. No two journeys are the same.
  • Build a Home, Take It With You
Scavenge resources, craft tools, and build a floating home on the river. Pack up and move to the next stretch or settle on the banks. Everything you build can come with you.
  • Stay Alive!
Nature is the enemy. Manage your health, hunger, thirst, and exposure to survive another day. Danger is recognizable if you know what to look for. A distant growl, tracks in the sand, fast moving water. Pay attention and you'll stay alive.
  • Leave Your Mark In a Living World
Animals roam, hunt, and follow a real food chain. You're part of it, and you're not at the top. Dig into the terrain to reshape the landscape or redirect the river. The world reacts to what you do.
  • Make It Yours
Everything you make is shaped by the resources you find. Choose the materials to use for each part of your tools. Build your structures the same way. Upgrade and customize your gear as you discover better materials.
  • Create Your Own World
The revamped Cartographer editor lets you create your own locations and experiences to add to your world, and share with friends on any platform.

I don't know... I played the first one, and it was just really buggy, even on Windows. My friend and I gave up after a while, and didn't really see the point in continuing to play.

The original had a good foundation but the islands were too repetitive & boring. I ended up customizing my map by replacing default islands with player created ones. Made it an awesome experience.
