Well - that didn't take long. Minecraft Dungeons II launched with it completely broken on Steam Deck / SteamOS, but the initial issue is now solved.

In an announcement on the Steam page the developers said:

"A new Minecraft Dungeons II update is available on Steam! The game should now be playable on Steam Deck. Some issues may occur such as missing on-screen keyboard functionality, but more improvements will be coming in a future update to bring full Steam Deck verification.

Additionally, we've pushed a game balance update to all platforms, increasing the emerald cap increased from 9,999 to 99,999. No game update is required and the change will take affect the next time to login to the game.

Please keep your feedback coming at aka.ms/Dungeons2Feedback and report any bugs to aka.ms/Dungeons2Bugs"

Really great to see such a quick fix - but would have been nice for it to actually work at release, but at least now you and friends can dive in for some dungeon crawling.

The developers actually noted Steam Deck support in a blog post before release (Archive), which has since been silently edited to remove the Steam Deck mention. It originally read:

"What if you want to continue your adventure on a different platform? Threat not! Linking your platform accounts to the same Microsoft account will let you keep playing with the same hero. For example, if you play on a Steam Deck and an Xbox, you can switch between them and continue your progress!"

Now it just says:

"What if you want to continue your adventure on a different platform? Threat not! Linking your platform accounts to the same Microsoft account will let you keep playing with the same hero."

Honestly massive respect to them for getting it fixed so quickly after launch.

Me and my girlfriend were extremely disappointed when this didn't work, but when they fixed it I happened to be at her house so I gave it a try on my Framework 16. Worked flawlessly online with her on Windows and myself on Linux! We played about 3 hours and no issues (I played at Medium settings at 1200p, full 60fps).
