Receiver is getting a much expanded sequel! Wolfire Games (Overgrowth, Lugaru) have confirmed Receiver 2 is releasing with Linux support next year.

If you've not played the original, which also has Linux support, this is no arcade game or Call of Duty-like. This is a gun simulation. You can learn how a gun works with it and enemies are not bullet sponges, a well placed shot will take someone or something down. It's all based on gun mechanic realism.

Feature Highlight:

  • Sidearms modeled down to every spring and pin
  • Enemies with physically-based damage models
  • Ballistic modeling of ricochets, penetration, and bullet drop
  • Train your mind to defend against the Mindkill
  • Become literate in how guns actually operate

Receiver 2 will be staying as a single-player game, they confirmed no mutliplayer is planned for it. They also said it will have a lot more content compared to the original. So expect more guns and a deeper gun simulation.

You can wishlist/follow it on Steam.

According to the store page on Steam:
QuoteDoes Receiver 2 have online multiplayer or VR support?
No, Receiver 2 is designed to be a single-player experience played on a monitor with a mouse and keyboard.
Maybe they'll change their mind, though.

The problem with vr in linux is that we don't have hmd without being a valve that makes it very expensive to have vr in linux. At times I would be very interested in using vr but my country does not reach the valve index. Unfortunately, openhmd does not have many resources to make Oculus Rift s walk in Linux. I would be very interested to know or have more info,

Since the valve index came out, people were selling off their HTC vives like crazy, i just recently got a Vive for about 350 USD. I didn't think i would ever be able to afford VR tech ever.
