Valve have released a new Steam Client Beta which pulls in a couple of Linux improvements and they appear to be preparing a new Proton version with a tweak for Half-Life: Alyx.
For the Steam Client Beta they fixed some Library layout regressions and Remote Play got a fix for muted audio when streaming after an RDP session. On the Linux side, here's the changes:
- Steam runtime 0.20200318.1:
- Updated to latest version of libvulkan, exporting more WSI functions for Proton
- Runtime diagnostic tool improvements
Additionally, an eagle-eyed user on Twitter sent a tip showing that Valve appear to be readying the next version of Steam Play's Proton software. Looking on SteamDB, Proton 5.0-5 appeared on March 18 and continues to be worked on. It could be today, it could be next week, Valve don't seem to stick to any schedule for their Proton releases.
If you missed it, Valve mentioned to GOL their aim for Half-Life: Alyx is to have it working in Proton and post-release add Vulkan plus Linux support. Seems Proton is being setup to have a simple tweak ready for it.
