The open source Minecraft launcher MultiMC adds more mod platform support

Need an easy way to mod Minecraft using many different sources and versions? MultiMC is a great way to do that with a brand new release out now expanding it.

MultiMC is already pretty feature-filled, and practically the go-to for Minecraft modding for a lot of people thanks to it being free and open source, plus it's really easy to use. MultiMC 0.6.12 comes after a year of maintenance and development work by various contributors, with some big enhancements thanks to additional mod platform support. You can now search and install mods from CurseForge, FTB, Technic and ATLauncher - giving you even more to expand your Minecraft experience.

Additionally you can now opt to not use OpenAL and/or GLFW libraries bundled with the game if what your system has works better. Plus numerous other bug fixes and improvements but those are the most major. Plans are in place for the next big version too which they say will include:

• Rework of the account system to add support for Microsoft accounts
• Rework of the Mojang accounts to allow them to co-exist with Microsoft accounts
• General fixes to dealing with account state and skins – currently, we use a third party service to fetch skins and we only do it on application start.
• Complete rework of Java runtime management. The game will soon require different versions of the JRE and our approach will no longer work in that environment.
