Time to get your cyberpunk back on as Mechajammer from publisher Modern Wolf and developer Whalenought Studios has just been announced with confirmed Linux support.
"Mechajammer is a CRPG with strong tabletop roots but with a precise, peculiar take on the genre. The foundation of the game is an immersive sim (like an isometric Deus Ex) on which the players will freely choose how to face different tactical situations. Stealth is always an option, as party-based combat is."
According to the notes sent over, the combat while turn based will actually do all the action simultaneously. The system allows for interruptions in certain situations, quick reactions and an experience they say "feels like real-time but with the rules of turn-based combat systems". It's a good system used by a number of other games and can end up making things feel quite exciting while still allowing for some extra tactics and time to think.
For the story it's inspired by 80s sci-fi/action movies like Escape from New York, Robocop, and the first Terminator. Expect to see get a dark and gloomy atmosphere with plenty of low-tech being used throughout. They said the idea was to "capture the bluntness of the story of movies like Escape from New York" and no "'unite the underdogs to fight the villain' nonsense".
You can follow Mechajammer on Steam.
