By - | Views: 12,843

The Wine hackers have released the latest development build with Wine 6.13 with plenty of new features and the usual assortment of bug fixes.

For newer readers and Linux users here's a refresher - Wine is a compatibility layer built for operating systems like Linux, macOS and BSD. The idea is to allow other platforms to run games and applications only built and supported for Windows. It's also part of what makes up Steam Play Proton. Once a year or so, a new stable release is made.

New features in Wine 6.13:

  • Proper scrollbar theming.
  • More work towards WinSock PE conversion.
  • Preparation work for the GDI syscall interface.
  • Some progress on the IPHLPAPI PE conversion.

For the bug fixes they noted 31 solved as of this release. Some newly solved, some getting fresh reports from older bugs. Improvements will be seen for the likes of: Academagia, Perfect World, Kodi, Doom 3, Far Cry 4, Project CARS 2, Sims 4, Dishonored 2, World of Warcraft, INSIDE, The Hong Kong Massacre, Sniper Elite 3, Battle.net client, Battlefield 4 and more.

I’m hoping this will somehow fix Heroes of the Storm for me. Had to downgrade from wine-staging 6.12 to 6.11 to install Battle.net, but the game itself seems to crash at launch. (Haven’t tried non-staging wine.)
