The first point-release for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is now available

Canonical announced the release of Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS which brings together an updated download with all the bug fixes, updated apps, driver upgrades and more. Users will now also be prompted to update from earlier versions of Ubuntu, or automatically as part of update scheduling.

Since this is an LTS release (long term support), it will see updates until April 2027.

While not a major new distro release, it's worth noting since this is the first proper big update since the release of Ubuntu 22.04. A long list of the changes can be seen on their official Discourse forum like NVIDIA driver updates, Mesa driver updates for AMD / Intel, various crash-bug fixes for desktop users, Snap upgrades, kernel and firmware updates and much more.

As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation.  These include security updates and corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. 22.04.1 also brings new RISC-V platform support, providing fresh images for the Allwinner Nezha and VisionFive StarFive boards.

So, technically is when my Ubuntu 20.04 should offer me the upgrade to 22.04.... But no.. It didn't happen.

I think this also means that KDE Neon will update their base system from 20.04 to 22.04 soon.

Just finished upgrading from 20.04 to 22.04 Xubuntu (full rebuild, not an in-place upgrade). Everything's working great, so far. Only snag I've run into is a problem with the xfce-panel system tray where I'm getting duplicate icons showing up there. Appears to be a contention issue between xfce-statusnotifier-plugin and the new system tray code. They're in a transition period right now moving away from statusnotifier which was recently deprecated. There are workarounds so not a show-stopper.
