The free and open source Worms-like 'Hedgewars' is now on Steam

By - | Views: 29,049

Hedgewars has been going for quite a number of years now, although it only had a 1.0 release back in 2019. It's very much styled in the spirit of Worms, except with hedgehogs. If you've somehow never played Worms or Hedgewars: teams take it in turns to try to blow the other up, with turn-based combat and various different weapons. Your weapons also blow up the terrain and it can be thoroughly entertaining.

But the burning question is, how do people go about updating it on Mint?!

Seriously, though, nice to see this one get some more exposure by way of coming to Steam.

Awesome! The more free and open source games on Steam the better imho

Does not run on Linux, since they aren't providing all the necessary deps, including libphysfs

Doesn't look like an official Steam release from the original team, I would stay away.

Quoting: toru9999Doesn't look like an official Steam release from the original team, I would stay away.
It doesn't seem to be official but looks like it's being done with the developers blessing:

"I'd just like to note for anyone reading this skeptically. This seems to be a good faith effort. He's been on #hedgewars for past few weeks discussing it and working on the build.

While I personally am not enormously interested in steam, I know a few people here have asked for it repeatedly. Well, if you want it, maybe you should kick in a bit for the developer fee."

This is not a proper build against the Steam runtime. Someone just uploaded the binaries from the website without approval from the team. I would not advertise it.
