Update 22:13: In addition to the below, Valve did another Proton Experimental update after some recent Ubisoft Connect breakage I highlighted that includes:

  • Fix 2K launcher failure caused by launcher update.
  • Fix Ubisoft Connect launcher failure caused by launcher update.

Original article below:

Valve has released an update to two different versions of their Windows compatibility layer for Linux desktop and Steam Deck with Proton Hotfix and Proton Experimental seeing small updates. Here's what's new.

If you're confused on what Proton is, check out my beginner's guide.

Here's what's changed for Proton Experimental:

  • Now playable: Forspoken, Samurai Maiden.
  • Improve sleep/resume functionality on Steam Deck for Tiny Tina's Wonderland.

For Proton Hotfix, Valve's Pierre-Loup Griffais said on Twitter:

A Proton Hotfix change has just been deployed to fix an issue where the Dead Space save screen thumbnail wouldn't appear properly. We're not aware of any remaining issues with the game but are continuing to monitor reports.

Changelog can be found here.

In a follow-up tweet asking for clarification Griffais said:

Most of those changes were improvements to our DX12 implementation to better support usage patterns we hadn't seen before.

So switch to Hotfix to apply (they're their own Proton builds)?
