The team working on the Nintendo Switch emulator yuzu have another progress report up, and as usual it's looking mighty fine so here's a little run over what they've done recently.
For starters their work to improve games using Unreal Engine 4 continues, especially since the recent release of Pikmin 4 back in July. This includes fixing up a recent regression which caused big stability problems on NVIDIA GPUs. Plus they upped the total number of texture buffers from 16 to 32 preventing a bunch of UE4 games crashing like Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE.
They're also overhauling per-game configuration, with plans to allow you to use game-specific configurations from the community. This is a pretty big thing and will be helpful so people don't always have to tweak many different settings, you'll just be able to grab one and apply it for whatever game you want. While planning this they also did a rewrite of their entire settings back-end and improved many parts of the settings UI.
Plenty of optimizations on top of optimizations were done too. With their latest changes they managed a "nearly" 10% performance boost in parts of Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. Plus Splatoon 3 saw shader compile time improvements reducing the slowest from 30 seconds to about 4 seconds.
Other changes include continued reverse engineering of the Switch NFC service, button mapping improvements so SDL properly uses the native A/B and X/Y mapping of Nintendo devices, upgrades to their Linux build script to enable Wayland support in their AppImage releases, a bug fix preventing games with non-ASCII titles to crash on Linux, a big memory leak fix in the Discord Rich Presence code was solved and more bug fixes.
