Kentucky Route Zero has a big upgrade improving it on Steam Deck

By - | Views: 27,508

Kentucky Route Zero: PC Edition has seen it's first major update since the release of Act V in 2020, and now it should be a better experience on the Steam Deck.

While it already has Native Linux support and it's Steam Deck Verified, they clearly weren't satisfied with it. So they went back and overhauled the user interface in the new "Modern" mode.  There's also new and improved language support, plus lots of bug fixes.

This new Modern interface is supposed to be "more flexible and readable on a wider variety of devices, including tablets and the Steam Deck". The original interface is still around if you want it but they tweaked that too. They said another final update is planned to come in future to add in "line rendering improvements for high resolutions, and full multi-touch input on the Steam Deck" - so it's going to get even sweeter.

New Highlights:

  • Switch freely between "Modern," "Classic," and "Retro" modes.
  • New translations: Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, Polish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish.
  • A new Japanese translation.
  • Steam Cloud sync.
  • Zoom in on details in the scene by holding the right mouse button or gamepad trigger, or pinching the screen.
  • Improved touchscreen support makes the game 100% hot dog compatible.

You can buy it on Humble Store and Steam.

I've seen complaints that the text was too small. Is this still an issue?

As a Kentuckian myself, who lives ~20-25 minutes away from where the game is set, my answer is an emphatic yes!

Not only do I love adventure games, it's got a great soundtrack! How many games do y'all know of that have this much Bluegrass/Bluegrass Gospel? Their version of Long Journey Home is pretty doggone good.

I propose to read this (balanced, but negative in result) review: https://steamcommunity.com/id/thethomaseffect/recommended/231200/

The answer in my humble opinion is that it's impossible for us to say if you might love or hate the game.

Personally, I could not appreciate this piece of art. What I found interesting: According to the achievements, of those who finished the last chapter, ten percent didn't play the last but one. (You can access any chapter in the main menu.) So people wanted to know how this all ends, but the game wasn't interesting enough to follow all the way to the end...

I also bounced off this. It was okay and I liked the style and setting, but I'd have preferred if it was a lot shorter.
